How about an option where you are allowed to vote for the best review for said album. It would reset when a new review for the album is written, and you can choose again. The one with the most votes becomes default review. Makes sense?

Quoting my own idea. Does anyone think this could work?

On another note, I couldn't log-in from the sputnik page, and had to go to musicianforums to do so. Also the site often logs me out, even though I haven't cleared my cookies.


EDIT: Also, sometimes when I want to go to the last page of comments in a review I get to page 5 of 4 or something like that.

On my album rating page, Sigur Ros is appearing as Sigur R��font class=smalloffset>. I'd imagine this is happening with other artists with symbol things in their name.

Heh, I didn't have you in mind. Just look at the disparity from three and four, or two and three. I like catching up with threads to see how everyone's doing, but it isn't a "POST STUPID ****" thread. Just because GD is gone doesn't mean that this place is supposed to be its replacement.

And I don't think one hour is a reasonable time to judge - just give it a week, or even a day, and see if there's any significant difference.

Before I went to type out this question, I looked around for an answer. I apologize if I missed where people talked about it in great length ..

What is the deal with apostrophes? I just edited an old review of mine because I found a random typo and suddenly it looks this:

Tom Waits� Mule Variations

instead of

Tom Waits' Mule Variations

What gives? Any ideas?

Has to do with the parser of the Sputnik backend. I think it might have to do something with hack protection. mx will have to look at that, as he is the only guy who has access to the backend (like, as owner and such :))

I have that problem too, but I found a way around it. Log in to the forums and click the "Quick Link's" on the bar on top.

According to a statement issued by The Comatorium, The Mars Volta have permanently replaced drummer Jon Theodore with touring drummer Brian Fleming. Fleming, who has previously played with Laddio Bolocko and Dazzling Killmen, was the original drummer during the Mars Volta's initial demos as a band. Pentagram, My Dying Bride, Candlemass, Cathedral, In The Woods..., Saint Vitus, Theatre Of Tragedy, Tristania, Within Temptation, Isis, Katatonia, Mastodon, Electric Wizard, Sleep, Bongzilla, Om, Sunn O))), Novembers Doom, Solefald, Yob, High On Fire, Canvas Solaris, Primordial, Swallow The Sun, Shape Of Despair, Amorphis (as a sub-genre), and Virgin Black amonsgt several others are my reason why I strongly belive Doom Metal is needed as a metal genre.

If you really think doom is a necessary genre, make a thread to argue your case and we'll make sure mx sees it. Don't just list bands, you need to show that there's an actual demand from users.

I just added a review of Hieronymus Bosch (a progressive /extreme/ death metal band)
Now I labeled it as progressive, which is a good label.
Bit ist shows up as progressive ROCK and not as metal.
So could this somehow be placed under pro METAL or prog DEATH metal?
If any mod would be so kind, since I can't seem to change the genre anymore.

I don't know if it's been mentioned already.
Problem: I was looking at a band page on sputnik, then I clicked on the sputnik logo up the top to go back to the main page. Instead, it goes here http://www.sputnikmusic.com/band/index.php making it an invalid page. Well, that is until there is a band called index.php


Also another thing which I feel is important and I mentioned when sputnik first went public, but it is still yet to be done. Simply, symbols and numbers need to be added to this one

You have to edit apostrophes and quotations in from Sputnik. That'll make those symbols go away.

Yeah that's the problem. In order for it to actually be fixed, that is something mx will have to do, find some way to get apostrophes to work in URLs. That's something on his end and I can't give you a timeline for when it might be done.

In the short term, you can access your profile from the forums (by clicking on your username), or on the review site by clicking the "rate your music" link and going to the "my profile" tab from there. Both those options use your userid rather than your username. Hope that helps for now.

Question. If an album is to be 'officially' released on a certain day, but for some reason, states such as Colorado released it today, does that make it OK for a review, or should I just wait till the official release date? It's kinda weird actually...it ain't gonna kill me or anything to wait another 6 days, I was just wondering, cause I don't feel like getting slapped in the face for posting it thinking I can.

I'm not really sure, but just to be safe I would wait till the real release date. I would also recommend waiting till someone who knows what they're talking about comes by here, but that's just my guess.

So, asking what amounts to pretty much a favor, can one of the mods delete the apparent systematic neggings I have recieved? I do remember two or so weeks ago Spat Out Plath said I had been on the recieving end, and I didnt want to ask then due to circumstances, but I have no problem looking like a dick whose pissed off at his meaningless approval % being relatively low.

/only applies if there is an apparent systematic negging. Otherwise, uh, ban me or something.

so i take it you're saying that everything which isn't written in english should be deleted? i think that's a tad elitest, this site's multinational. therefore, foriegn languages need to be taken into account, Damrod might add a translation, but asking for a deletion isn't right IMO

Maybe because this is an English-based site? And that 95% of the site can't read it.

So then why don't people review in foreign languages to? This is an english based site so about 90% of everyone can't read it, besides the mods ask that most stuff is in english.

Thanks Jom. I'll give it a shot. I thought it did because when I wrote one out on Word, copy and pasted to notepad, and then cleaned it up and copy and pasted from notepad it still came out weird. So it must be a code thing I don't understand. I hate giving up Word. It's been a great help. I do have Coral WordPerfect around somewhere. It's crap, but maybe it'll work out ok.

Oh, and does anyone know if this will be fixed on sputnik and the reviews will go back to normal? If not, manually fixing them will work, I guess? I dunno?

That seems to have happened on most of, if not all of, the older reviews. It's probably just a by-product of mx cleaning everything up. I wouldn't worry, at least it looks better than those symbols :)

ok, again, since no one answered my question before, Ive been inexplicably banned for the past week. Nothing in the banning thread, and none of the mods have mentioned for what or for how long or anything like that. If this is a glitch, Id like it rectified as soon as possible. I have a question:

I'm a pretty fast reader, but would it be possible to slow down the alternating featured albums by about another second or two? I get almost done reading the blurbs and then it changes to another album. And then I almost get done reading that one, and it changes again. And then when the first album I see gets around, I forget where I left off, and like an Alzheimer's patient, I start over.

It did that for me too, I couldn't look at my previous posts. But after I wen't to the bottom of the screen to the dropbox and picked a forum it worked.

on my profile (while i am logged on) there is the pie chart the dig list the music timeline and my reviews but there is no latest comments on my reviews. was this deleted a wile ago i just didnt realize or is there something horribly wrong. because i dont have the attention span to check every single one of my reviews. even if i only have like 10 or so.

Yeah, it was taken out of your's, and everyone else's, profiles. On the main (or any genre page) you can click the "My Reviews" tab above the recent comments section to see your most recently commented reviews (and the dates that the were commented on).

I'm not sure if anyone is aware of this problem, or if anyone else has it, but more and more often when I go to rate an album it brings up a blank page called "http://sputnikmusic.com/user_rating.php" and it won't accept my rating. I try refreshing and it does nothing, so I was wondering if there is an explanation for this.

Hey guys, I know you're busy with tub.girl and stuff but I thought maybe you could answer a question for me between cleaning up the poo.

What determines what is a "Featured Music" review? I hate to bring it up because it's my own review. But as you may know I am a contributer to The Who thread in R&M. The Who just released their first record of completely new music in 24 years, it's getting great reviews all around, and one of the greatest rock n roll bands ever (top 3, some might say) can't get a featured music review whilst the latest from ween and god knows what else gets front page service. If this were Zep or a couple of Beatles who made music this good in this day and age the fanboys would of forced it up :(

Listen, I'm trying not to take the internets too seriously these days. But this is a bit much. A music review site with a great review of The Who's brand new mini opera that the rock world is raving about and it's settling in the dust on the staff reviews page. I'm not whining or complaining, exactly. And my over 400 posts in The Who thread will bear out I'm a true fan. And that's how I come here this evening. If Lunch or robo or anyone else had reviewed it I'd be here just the same.

So the question remains, who needs to get e head around here to get some respect for The Who on sputnik? Are they not worthy? Are they not playing festivals with all the "hip bands" less than half their age? Perhaps the only "classic rock" band that can do so? Did they not influence punk, metal, hard rock, and beyond. Did they not bring you Won't Get Fooled Again? Will the review not have 800 views by Thursday? Is not Pete and Roger good enough? Does not sputnik want to be part of some of the best work this band has ever put out? Am I not a staff writer who wrote an excellent review just 5 days after the mini opera was released?

WHO IS RUNNING THIS DOG AND PONY SHOW!

Listen guys and Moz, you dudes dropped the ball with this one. Too late to do anything now. It would be wrong to do so. But this is a MAJOR release and a return to form for one of rock n roll's truly great bands. And everyone is in on it except poor little sputnik. In October the full length album hits and it's going to be AN EVENT. They will be on tour, the momentum is swelling in the States, THE WHO ARE BACK. So lets hope whoever reviews the album, whether that be this reviewer or someone else, the old guys can get a little love around here. The Who deserve it, sputnik deserves it, and the people who come to sputnik who love this band deserve it.

So remember October is Who month on sputnik. Please make a note of it :)

I don't know, man. I'm not trying to win any points here, obviously. Just maybe come October someone will remeber and put it up without having to be reminded. It really is about the love of the music for me. I mean that's part of what keeps us all here. It's just I've been around the internets looking into this record and it's getting raves. The Who. Not the tired old Stones who put a tired old album out every five or six years or The Beatles who have been long gone forever. But one of the great bands of all time with the odds, age, and death of band members against them making relevant and important music again. And then when I return to sputnik nothing :\ Just another band with another record. Maybe if it were Elvis or Jazzy Jeff or the latest trip hop record it would get some play? I dunno? All I know is The Who are playing The Virgin Festival this year and they are the only band playing from a different era. The Chili Peps, Gnarls Barkley, The Raconteurs, Flaming Lips, The Killers, New animal photographsographers, and many more. And The Who. Who are accepting second bill behind the RHCP. I would think someone on the usually astute sputnik staff would notice. But I guess not. This is The Year Of The Who. Wait and see. And I didn't want to mention it because then people would of said, "oh there goes John whoring his Who review". I shouldn't have to whore it! :-\

Meh, that's fine. And I think most people know to take me with a grain of salt after 16 months on the board, But perhaps not?

But yeah, The Who are a passion of mine. As you can well tell. I get a little crazy...Who fans are known to be like that...

Telling the staff that they 'dropped the ball on this one' and that 'it's too late to do anything about it now,' especially after you said 'I'm not trying to take the Internets too seriously these days,' shows that you are being WAY too fatalistic about this.

If they feature it in October, I certainly hope it's because the staff honors your request, even though you insinuated petty names and attempted to put them on a guilt trip, instead of honoring it because they feel sorry for you for being so fatalistic.

It's not the end of the world if something does or does not get featured, and don't take it so personally. If they didn't feature it just because they knew that you'd explode like this, then I give them a million kajillion kudos for such a phenomenal prank.

If you want something done, you want to be approachable and in the very least cordial. You're normally a stand-up guy, but you went borderline maniacal after that first paragraph.

I'll tell you right now that they'd be far more receptive to your question had you not gone on a tirade about how it's such a dis-service and a travesty that one of your reviews hasn't been featured.

If you had a question, then just ask the question. Don't go on and on for five paragraphs taking it out on the staff and the site itself.

Anyhow, I've got a few problems. Fleetwood Mac's Mirage was released in 1982 but doesn't have a release date on here. Everclear's Songs from and american movie vol 1: learning how to smile was released in 2000, not 2005. Collective Soul's From The Ground Up was released in 2005, not '06. Last but not least, there is a Goo Goo Dolls and a The Goo Goo Dolls. I would appreciate it if they were merged. thanks.:thumb:

I think we should officially outlaw making "Which of these albums should I buy next?" lists. They're getting way overdone and are extremely lame, because it's just people going in there saying which albums they personally like the best in the comments. And it gives fools a reason to make a stupid list.

If you can't decide you want to buy a Slayer album without SlayerFAN666\m/ telling you it's the best album of all time, you shouldn't be buying it.

The reason why I bring it up is because before it would take you to sputnikmusic.com instead of musicianforums.com, but within the past couple days it reverted back to musicianforums, so I wasn't sure why this was the case.

Is there a particular reason why it takes twenty-four hours-ish to have a new password on Sputnikmusic carry over when I change my password? I keep changing my password because, like an Alzheimer's patient (sup Lewis Black), I keep forgetting that this happens.

If it's a security thing, then no worries on this end.

Err, I'm pissed. My old account barely even works - it always says invalid username or password. I KNOW my password, and obviously my old username, so I tried to change the password. I had to type in my old password. You could imagine that didn't go well. I asked for it to be sent to my e-mail, but it didn't say what it was! Just my username. I tried again twice, and it was never sent. So I got a second e-mail adress, and made this account, (even though it seemed weird) so I could post on the report problems thread. I found it was closed. Now that I have a second account, it's even harder to go on my old one. Maybe I should just use this one, or have it deleted. The worst part is, I'm scared I'll get banned...

This was in a Panic! thread, but you probably should look up the e-mail the person signed on with that account and find out the other username they signed up with, or whatever. The person is, Onewaytrip2hell.

Can you please make it so that when you're making a list or something, the entire thing doesn't get erased if you leave the page? I just made a 20-item list and with one accidental hit of a mouse button I lost the entire thing. It's extremely frustrating.
