View Full Version : List Integration
Lists are, surprisingly, one of the most popular features on the site. Since we have so many lists coming out a day, is there a better way to showcase this site feature? How could it be shown on the main/genre pages? Any ideas you have at all would be appreciated.
One note: I'll be switching list and journal placements tomorrow, and displaying more lists on the main page.

On the band pages, you could put the most recent lists that include that band, much like the news section.

Uh, maybe you could have "genres" for lists. Like "Single Artist Lists" "Theme Lists" stuff like that. Might not work, or be what you're looking for.
Lists are tough because they can be about anything, from "My Top Ten Favorite [insert qualifier here]" to "Lists that people need to stop making." Thus, it'd be difficult for the latter to be displayed on a genre page, but it might be easier for the former to be displayed on a genre page. Perhaps, when one is making a list, you can have a drop-down menu that asks 'What genre best describes your list?'
For those that make a list about instruments, it'd be tougher, obviously, but there could be a way to work around it.
The only problem would be if someone picks 'Other' as the genre, if this hypothetical drop-down list is implemented.

That is a good idea.

I was thinking you need a section where you can navigate lists sort of like on facebook. Say you search Tool, you'll get categories for lists that have Tool for albums, songs, descriptions, or titles to determine if you want say Top 15 metal albums, which may include Tool, or Top 5 Tool songs for example.

I think someone mentioned this a long time ago, but we should try featured lists. Highlight some lists that are interesting/different

Well part of what I was thinking about posting about the other day but realized it may be a little early, is that staff reviewers get to have their "Best of 2006" lists be full articles that are linked out of the front page from like December 20-January 15 or something. I remember reading a particular best of on mxtabs that influenced me to get El Cielo which is now my second favorite album of all time.
