 I've been trying to find some decent radio stations, now that southern connecticut has been reduced to a few college shows a week. If anyone has a favorite station, please post the name and city/website here. Sorry if someone has already done something like this.

I did a thread about this a little bit ago. Go to impact89fm.org for a decent one that you can listen too online.

It's Michigan State's college station. They do specialty shows every night from around 8-12 PM est but pretty much every other time is just whatevers hot or other random stuff. Plus you can request using AIM.

ask YDload for that good one he listens to with Dr. David Thorpe

no way thats a secret

besides there are plenty of good radio stations you can find from iTunes. some of them even display the name of the artist/song while it's playing! i can't remember which ones are good but just clicking around will get you something interesting eventually.

good alt/indie radio is an oxymoron.

there's a radiostation here in San Diego, it's 94.9, that plays a lot of indie. like Pixies, Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Meatpuppets, Massive Attack, Bjork, Radiohead, etc.

every once in a while they play some garbage like Franz Ferdinand, but meh.

what's the point in radio when you have soulseek?

college radio stations usually have pretty hip radio shows.

I really like Radio K from the University of Minnesota. They can get pretty eccentric, though, especially for someone that's not familiar at all with the local context.

There are several good specialty shows on the weekends, though. Some Assembly Required is definitely my favorite, and they've got a podcast archive. "Tape manipulations, digital deconstructions and turntable creations." http://www.some-assembly-required.net/

We're not all Throeau DIY'ers. Easy exposure. Adorable Hosts. No Hassle.

exactly. and it's not like you can get soulseek in your car.

and with soulseek, you download what you are looking for.
with radio, you might by some chance hear something that's brand new to you.

I just use last.fm radio, pandora.com is ok too.

I find pandora much better. Less lag and it can more consistently play a song I like.

And why is that? I mean, it is music.

Most radio just plays popular songs of popular bands. Especially in crappy california. Plus...you don't really have a say as to what gets played on it. Indie internet radio? Nah I'd rather create my own station of indie. And that's where (as people have previously mentioned) Pandora.com and last.fm come in. Not a big fan of last.fm...but since there's integration of it here...sigh...I guess I'll start actually using my account.

you prob wont get it on the actual radio in CT, but URI has some decent radio shows that you can access from their website. Especially if you like electronic music or classical they've got nice late night weekend spots.
