Howdy fellas,

I'm wanting to use electronic-pads to trigger sounds from a sampler or module or something. The electronic pads I can build myself, so that's no hassle. I want to be able to trigger mp3's from the module, and loop them with some sort of polyphony. What is it that i'm looking for?!

I have been looking at samplers, but they are all MIDI samplers. I don't think I can get the sound i'm looking for with MIDI. I need something that I can put my own sounds into.

In summary, I need a box that I can put my own sounds into (effects AND loops), I need the box to playback these sounds when triggered via e-pad, and I need to set some to loop and to be able to play a few sounds at the same time.

Also, I played an electronic kit in a local store (Roland TD6 I think) and it had a cool feature where one pad would play a sequence of sounds. For example: 1st hit = sound 1, 2nd hit = sound 2, 3rd hit = sound 3, 4th hit = sound 1, 5th hit = sound 2.. ect ect ect.

I would very much like for that last feature to also be possible.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Are you opposed to using a soft-sampler like Kontakt?

Soft-sampler? As in software? I don't want to use a laptop if that's what you mean.

Software is the way to go. The "box" you're describing sounds like a laptop to me. You can probably actually purchase one for less than a hardware sampler that you're describing that will do all the stuff you want, what with the glut of free software available.

How would I connect e-pads into a laptop? Or say for example if I wanted to use one of these: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Feb02/articles/rolandspd6.asp
