I'm sure there are many other people who have the constant problem with removing this next-to useless, short lasting, bastard of a security system.
Somehow there are still Norton files on my PC, which is preventing me from installing other, better antiviruses.
Is there any way to get it all?
Add/Remove programs doesn't get it off, as there are parts missing, it says.
CCleaner doesn't get it all
Manually attempting to trace all of the files doesn't work.
Can anyone help me?

I mean what the **** are these wankers trying to pull?!
The ****ing licence lasts for a year at best and then you have to pay £40 for a new edition?!
****ing ripoff merchants.

they pre-install various firewalls on the dells we buy at work, amongst other crap too
Personally, i formatted the pc as soon as i got it out the box and just started again.
i tried to uninstall once, but i did the regular unistall process, still there, deleted every file, still there, deleted every start up item, being sure to google anything i didnt know, still there, stopped any services, still there, then i cleared out every single registry entry that was about, still running
where else do you look, tbh.

since we're on the subject, what would be a better antivirus program? I'm looking for one atm actually.

I've had good luck with Mcafee. It does cost money, but its thurough, and it doesn't stay on your computer like the ones you described.

AVG is a free anti virus.
Type remove norton into google and you'll get more help than we can provide.

Go to symatec's home site and look for the removal tool.
I personally like symantec's, I had avg pro and I didn't find it gave me enough protection.
Symantec is slightly better, except I have a virus on my main computer now, but that's mainly because I was messing round with downloaded software if you see what I mean.

I had to format, Norton was just too persistent.
I ended up getting a virus after my licence ran out, and Norton would be flashing and being a prick and annoying to hell out of me saying your computer is under attack and i couldn't get rid of it or stop it from doing it. I ended up formatting and installing Avast which is free and works great, i don't know if there is any benefits of it over AVG but its a good choice nonetheless.

I use avast. I like it a lot. scans kind of slow but does the job well. I usually just run a boot scan from time to time. Has a great set of individual scanner/providers that you can turn on or off for various programs on your computer. Stops viruses before they even creep on to the computer,
For anyone else with Norton probs System Mechanic 6 can also remove it. That's how I got rid of mine. Just the standard edition, not Pro. Free thirty day trial and it's fully functional. So you'll be able to do what you need even if you don't keep it. Just be careful with it. It's a fairly powerful utility. People are always fuc.king up with it.

So, I got rid of it, as much as I could, using the Symantec removal tool.
I'll try askdavetaylor if I feel the need to get rid of it completely, as although I can't find any more, there could still be bits of it left, but I would have to back up the registry etc. to do it, and I couldn't be bothered reading up on how to do the process safely, and I would rather do it safely than risk breaking my computer.
I got System Mechanic 6 anyway, although that didn't get it off, as it just tries in the same way as Add/remove programs that didn't work.
However, it's been very useful in fixing my computer generally, speeding it up no end and fixing some issues I had already.
I realised that the graphical issues were to do with the drivers I accidentally uninstalled, rather than an antivirus problem.
I also got AVG back, so I now have that, AntiVirGuard and Spy sweeper protecting my computer.
Thanks for the help guys, Reps to the most helpful shall be awarded:D

Some people say that the symantec remove tool doesn't work, but if it looks like it worked, it probably did.
I use Kaspersky, but it isn't free. I used to use norton, because I got it from school for free, but everything I've read about it says that it's essentially useless for stopping new viri.

Kaspersky, but it isn't free
It is if you get it the way I did ;)
The whole "getting of Norton" surge was inspired by my Kaspersky *ahem* aquiring... because in no way will it work with other Intivirii.
I don't know if I can be bothered installing it in the end though.
