On some pages you'll now see links to buy albums, with the prices available. The company we're offering them through is Amazon.

The long and short of it: Sputnikmusic gets a commission for every album sale through these links, which is needed to maintain the price of the servers. If you normally buy from Amazon or find these to be good prices, try to buy your new music after clicking these links. I promise that the money will go directly into server maintenence.

This should be very helpful for paying for the site. Good idea, J. :thumb:

This gives me a reason to add artists and albums to the database now. Before I didn't because I thought if people saw an album, they assumed there was already a review for it. I've seen a lot of cases of albums, but no reviews, so now I guess I can start adding like crazy.

Also, if you shop on amazon and add other items to your cart, they'll also count to wards to commission, or at least that'd true for sales stemming from pandora.com

Damn, I just bought two albums via Amazon this morning.

Well, if I do again (which I probably will) I'll go through the Sputnik link.

Do we have to use the specific link given, or could I click a link and browse around before buying?

I buy lots of music through amazon so I'm sure I could help out.

EDIT: oic, never mind. I'll be buying a lot of my music through sputnik now. :)

Good idea. I guess whenever I buy music, I'll just do it through Sputnik/Amazon :)

This is a great idea, and it helps give more incentive to review artists who typically go on more neglected by the community.

On a different note, now that this system has been implemented, I have to point out that one of my reviews doesn't have a link to buy the album because the title is cut short due to character restrictions. I never minded much before because anyone could just read the review to get the rest of the album title, but if it could possibly cost the site money to not have the link to buy the album then it's a bit irksome to me.

The review in question is here:

Actual title, "All The Footsteps You've Ever Left and the Fear Expecting Ahead"

Just a slight thing: The links say "Buy from $15.98" for example. Maybe this could be changed to "Buy for XY".

I would do my online shopping through the links, but I don't know if I could do that over Amazon.de as well. :(

Yeah, I was wondering if it worked through amazon.co.uk in some way, too, since shipping albums from amazon is expensive for me.

I have yet to see one of these links... I'm looking too...

Under the album cover it should say "buy from *insert price* here".

Weird. That's not showing up on my computer. Could an ad-blocker or something be blocking it?

any way you can hook us up with some amazon.ca and amazon.uk (or whatever the europe one is) so those of us in different countries can help out too?

I think this is great. Have seen it at other sites. Whatever works to bring revenue in and help maintain the operation of the site, I'm all for. Good links, too. Amazon is one of my favorite places to shop. And once in awhile I might pick up some music from there, too. When I do I'll use the links, if possible. :)
