Hey TS someone made a thread not so long ago that talked about the Doom soundtrack and how it had an uncanny resemblence to a lot of popular metal around at the time. One of the levels sounded a lot like Mouth For War by Pantera.
I can't say for licenced music used in games as theres plenty of it about and i don't usually take notice. No original soundtracks come to mind either right now. Best pseudometal soundtrack was for Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for the SNES, the cheesiness cracks me up.

Yeah well as someone said in the other thread it was probably a case of the developers talking to the audio department, giving them a bunch of cd's full of music and saying "make it sound like this".

Kingdom Under Fire and it's sequal both have really good soundtracks. They make a hard rock/metal soundtrack actually work in a strategy game.
