First off I just want to say that I always play it safe in terms of not pushing my voice too hard, especially since I am a metal vocalist. I definately preach to be careful with inward singing/screaming.

But I was just thinking about it today. It doesn't hurt me to do it and it never has nor has it ever really been difficult. Do you think that inward screaming/singing is just one of those "if you got it, you got it" kind of things? Or do you think it is something that CAN be worked on and developed safely?

I have definately heard of people hurting themselves and messing up their voice when they are trying to do it.

It basically is no-talent screaming. And I'm HELLA GOOD.

I'm not sure but i do it all the time in my band. My style is kinda like Waking the Cadaver. I don't know anyone else that can do it except for people that are already in bands, but i'm sure you'll be fine if it doesn't hurt(not positive, though)

I suggest most people stay away from inhales, because it normally does hurt... but I do some inhaling in my band... it never hurts me either, but a few friends of mine do the more traditional sounding (piggish) inhales and they're voices normally go hoarse after a while... I try to do it as naturally as possible, and only for effect.

My inhales are kinda like Through The Eyes of the Dead and my exhales are kinda like The Black Dahlia Murder, so I think I've got a decent-ish sound.

Dude this is like the third time you've asked this! Just do it already. Be careful and pay attention.... If you do have adverse reactions its more than likely not permanent. But it does happen. So pay attention and be smart. Obviously noone will stop you because most of us say its a no go. So go

 Are you talking to me? As far as I recall I have never asked anyone if I should or shouldn't do it. Hell I haven't even been on this site in nearly a year. I have been inward screaming for about 3-4 years (though I don't use it that often). Maybe you are just confused because I have been involved in plenty of discussions about it?

My question is sort of a spinoff of all these "How-to inhale scream" questions that float around this board. Basically wondering if those who can't inhale scream should even be trying to inhale scream. Hence the question, "Do you think that inward screaming/singing is just one of those 'if you got it, you got it' kind of things?"

My apologies if this discussion makes you mad because that certainly isn't my intention.

If you can do it without pain you should be fine. If you feel pain stop. That's your body telling you something's wrong.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is inward singing?

Well inward screaming is like Atreyu, Job For a Cowboy, See You Next Tuesday, etc. It sounds like a piggy.

Atreyu's really bad exhale actually. Alex basically pushes all air from the back of his throat... Job For A Cowboy and Through The Eyes Of The Dead are probably the two best inhale examples I can think of.

Not all inhaling sounds like a pig though, the only real noticible difference between exhale and inhale is that your tone gets higher pitched at the end of your breath with an inhale... the pig noise is oftentimes exagerated.

I sing/scream with my stomach being the most powerful tool (diaphram..whatevs yo).

If you scream from the throat, it's a good way to do some irrepairable damage :D
