I just posted this in the main section.....didt realise, so im posting it here.

Right, my mate is going to get an Epiphone Explorer bass for christmas, and he wants to mod it. He wants to convert it to active and change the hardware, but i dont really know that much about the electronics and stuff so i said id ask on here. He plays in a punk band, so he wants a trebly tone, what is a good active setup/pickups for this?

He also wants to change the hardware, and wants a different style bridge, what would be best for this?

Also, what necks with a sharp, similar shaped headstock would fit an Explorer as a replacement?

I really need the help on his and have seen you guys help other people out on similar issues, so as much help as possible would be gretaly appreciated. If any more information is required then sorry, just ask, please help.

Cheers

i've heard good things about EMGs and Dimarzio, but the dimarzios won't fit in an explorer (too small). i recommend the EMG 35J. but any model 35 will fit. it's just tone preference.

BadAs$ bridge. 1, 2, or 3. however, i don't know if they'll fit correctly.

why? it isn't punk enuff teh wai it iz? (directed at your freind, TS- not you).

honestly, tell your friend to get a different kind of bass, or build his own. there's no point in spending $400-$500 on bass you don't even like. it's people like this that just don't make sense to me.

No, thats not it, he's probably going to keep the neck, but just wondered if there was a better neck playing-wise, he likes the shape of the explorer headstock though, thats why it would need to keep a pointed headstock, but its not really a big issue. The main things are the electronics, then the hardware. And he really wants the explorer body and that, so he would rather mod it than just get a different bass, i think he'd rather have somthing unique that hes worked on himself. Thanks for your help, ill look into EMG's.

Maybe he could check out Warmoth?
