They're post-punk/alternative rock.
They're actually from Boston, no Burmese people as far as I know.

Vs. is sometimes called emo. They are usually called Indie Rock I believe. Also kind of punk(ish) but not annoying.

A lot of crap is called emo though, people call Fall Out Boy and Aiden emo!
The bands aren't even the same genre, nor do they have anything in common musically, really, most people are just ignorant and think emo either means whiney bitching music, or what they don't like.

I ment emotional hardcore. I've just stopped not calling MCR et al emo because out of like 500 people only one person really considers it emotional hardcore, the terms evolving and I think people need to get over it.
Ugh that was almost a rant but I stopped myself :P

It's really evolving, it's kind of devolving. I've found the word "emo" means something completely different to just about every person.

THREE BASIC FACTS ABOUT EMO
Emo stands for 'Emotionally Charged Hardcore Punk.'
Emo is no longer a living music scene, it died out in the early 90's, giving rise to the post emo and emo-violence genres.
The founding artists of the emo genre include bands such as The Rites Of Spring and Husker Du.
FOUR BASIC MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT EMO
Emo DOES NOT stand for emotional.
A person can not be emo, as its physically impossible for one to be emotionally charged hardcore punk.
Emo did not evolve to what it is confused with today, but rather the term [emo] was completely bastardized and raped of its original and true meaning by the mainstream music industry.
Emo is for the most part a dead genre, aside from Lifetime and a few far placed obscure bands emo is for the most part a thing of the past, but its spirit and passion still lives on in most of todays screamo bands.

It was quite a good post, I make similar posts fairly routinely because of idiots who don't get it.
I'm starting to like the new wave of emo bands coming out lately... I just wish Underoath continued to follow it rather than going more post-hardcore :upset:.

Oh, and this thread is kind of pointless. His question, albeit a silly one, has been answered.

It's a post-punk classic. It's dense, loud and has an agitated feel that I haven't heard done better.

I dunno, if you guys actually want to hang on to this dated definition of emo that like 16 people on the internet actually understand, it's your call, but it's pretty much the least rational course of action you could take in this instance.

Emo's not short for emotional, and Pop isn't short for popular. :)
The actual term for emotional hardcore is emocore

Apparently they took it from the plaque of a diplomatic building in New York City that their bassist saw. Presumably the Burmese Embassy or something. According to wikipedia, he thought that it had a "murky and disturbing quality" and liked the phrase because of that (in other words he thought it sounded cool).
hey you mean burmese embassy in new york collapsed and they thinks it's cool like that huh!!! i was thinking of giving my band includeing burma as all of them are from it. duh!!1 maybe, i can simply give the name u thant"the past secretory of un"
