I'm not really experienced in buying any equipment because I'm mad noob, so could anybody walk me through in a condensed post?

Help would be appreciated yo.

Well, PA wise, you will probably get what you pay for. So first you need to figure out how much you are willing to spend. Also, how big is your band? How big of shows do you play? If you are playing large venues or large outside concerts, you will obviously need a bigger PA.

For a PA you will need:
Mixer (either powered or non-powered) If you get a non-powered, you will also need a power-amp. My suggestion is to just get a powered mixer. You also need to figure out how many channels you need. Will this just be for vocals or are you planning on mic'ing everything and using monitors etc? Then of course you need the speakers, cables, microphones, etc. Common sense stuff.

Hope that helps, if you have any other questions I might be able to help.

It's just for vocals, because the rest of the band has pretty good equipment by themselves, and we're just gonna be playing small shows.

We were using my bass amp for a while, but the thing's old and blew out finally :(.

Try looking at some PA Packages on musiciansfriend.com or something like that. Or check out your local music store and ask the people there about them (if they aren't ignorant douchebags)

I wanna get a pa sometime around christmas, nothing too big. Just to be louder than like a max of 150-200 people. And for the mix board thing. I'd need probally 5 channels. I wanna get 2-3 mics. Obviously PA stands, Another mic stand.
Cables obviously.

Anyone know how much that would cost?

Probably a couple of peavey 1x15's on stands and the suitable poweramp
A behringer mixer
Sm57's for mics
Good quality stands and cables

You work it out.
