I'm throwing this one out to see if anyone has something to say.

Buddy Holly's music means a lot to me. I love the songs, the beat, attitude, and the guitar playing. I'm still trying to play his licks even the ones he didn't play himself personally.

I won't go into how much he influenced others because that has been done to death. I will say that he has been an influence on Eric Clapton; if I am to believe quotes from Clapton himself that is. I really think I can hear the influence too. Sometimes it comes out in the way he plays or sings for just a few seconds on a song and other times it seems to be more of a vibe or spirit.

It's too bad Buddy didn't live long enough to meet the Beatles or Bob Dylan. He would have loved them. At least Roy Orbison got to be in a group with Dylan and Harrison.

He's amazing. I only have his 20 Greatest Hits album, but I wish to get more. I love all of his songs, and can't get enough of him.

If anybody mentions Elvis, I'll kill them.

I got into Buddy Holly kind of backwards. I was a huge fan of Don McLean (writer of 'American Pie') when I was younger, and still am to an extent, and I found Buddy through his covers and tributes. I love tracks like 'Everyday' and 'It Doesn't Matter Anymore'

He really rocks.

Maybe Baby
Peggy Sue
Ting-a-Ling
That'll Be The Day
Think it Over (Zeppelin did that song in concert. It's on some illegal bootleg from the early 70's. Sloppy, impromtu and great!)

The list goes on.

Well, you have good taste, you guys! He was an awesome stage performer I can tell you. I saw him live in Liverpool, March 1958. And none of the visual enhancements and gizmos they have nowadays, sound system very basic and no roadies to set things up for them. And still they managed to reproduce the music exactly as was on their records. What a performance!

(Oh - just seen the date of the last post - not the liveliest thread in the board then!)

To the person who saw him in concert:

Good God! How I envy you!

Roy Orbison once said that the Beatles reminded him of Buddy Holly and the Crickets,"...just louder."
