im starting to write songs and ive been wondering, how would you go about finding melodies for vocals and guitars? which ones comes first? or is it a matter of opinion?

It's just a matter of opinion. Different people do it different ways. I always start with a guitar riff, then build from that. Other people find it easier to start with a vocal melody or drum beat. Just experiment with everything to find out what is easiest for you.

Personal preference.

I usually go:

Rythem Axe > Drums > Vocal Melody > Bassline > Lead Axe

But I also have a mate that writes like

Vocals > Guitars > Drums > Bass
