Does anyone have one?
Is there anything different by brand?
Is there a particular one I should buy?

Check out neweggs user reviews. I have an 80 gig Fantom drive and it's been perfect. Some have a couple of extra features. A fan or one touch back up, etc. But other than that it would seem to be simply a matter of reliabilty and price, all other things being equal. I researched at newegg and decided on the Fantom several months ago. It's been perfect.
An internal/enclosure idea is also good. Might save a few bucks...

I have a 160 gig WD external. It does what I use it for well. All I do is use it to hold my music, movies, pictures, and musical projects.

^Same here. I've also been using mine for programs and games lately and it's flawless. Good response time, seek time, etc...Nice speedy drive.

Not an expert, but overpriced IMO. I think I saw a Western Digital 160 gig external at a local Wal-Mart style store for $99. You are paying extra for all the pretty lights, I think...

What if I like the pretty lights? He said WD is probably the best thing you could ever go with.
Reiner, what brand is yours?

I have an Seagate also its very nice I think mine is only a 160 for like 75 bucks pretty cheap I think. Its been great no problems but I do know PinkFreud (mx user) had one as he recommended me Seagate and his crashed and he lost everything on it I believe. Just keep that in mind.

If I was gonna get an internal, Seagate is definately the best way to go.
Make sure you get one with an 8MB buffer.:thumb:

I couldn't explain to you how much I don't care.
Go internal its safer. Unless you are going to back up all your crap then it doesn't really matter.

Like Chad and REINER said, go buy an internal and then get an enclosure. Saves lots of money.
I had an old 200 gig IDE drive that I got for $40 and then got myself an enclosure for another $40. That's 80 dollars. I know that 80 gig premade externals go for around $100.

I bought a fuji or something, it's great. 80 gb cost me like 150us$ and it's just a little bigger than an ipod.
