View Full Version : August Newsletter Signup and Submissions

It's time to get this underway again.
While the core of the newsletter has been assembled, we can always use user-written pieces. Here are some ideas of things you can write:
- band profile
- album blurb
- a list (with descriptors)
- opinion piece on anything related to sputnik or music
- concert review
- interviews with local/indepedent bands
- user tribute
- band comparison (ie: Jay Z v. Nas, Beatles v. Stones)
- musician profile (drummer for band x, producer for band y etc.)
Or anything else your mind can dream up. We welcome creative pieces, these are just some suggestions. You don't need to be a sputnik or forums regular to contribute, everyone is welcome. Length is 100-300 words or so, but there is no set limit. For an idea, check out the July edition.
If you reviewed a new release during the month of July, we would heavily appreciate if you could summarise your review into a paragraph-length blurb. See the July edition to get an idea.
If you are interested in submitting any pieces, please do so by emailing us at sputnik.newsletter@gmail.com by July 29th or so. Please try to submit them as early as possible, it makes things easier on all of us.
If you are interested in signing up for the newsletter, just post your address in this thread, or send a request email to the above address.
This thread can also serve for questions, comments and suggestions. Design and layout tips, content suggestions, help writing articles... it can all be discussed here.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.

I could do it. Have a talk with the user fwqhads (his MSN/AIM is in his profile I think), first, though, because he has more experience with HTML, etc. than I do.

Ok, write 3-4 part series featuring real emo bands, tracking the evolution. Start with Rites of Spring or something and end with Circle Takes the Square.
Do a band profile for Xiu Xiu.
Interview Burt and write an article on his music.

Alright tonight is the last chance to submit something for the newsletter. I still have plenty of room, and would be greatful to anyone interested in submitting articles. For an idea, look at the first post here.
As it stands we don't have enough material to send out two newsletters this month, but any articles submitted after today may go toward an August 15th edition, depending on how many submissions I get.
Hep Kat
07-29-2006, 08:59 PM

Good news, I thought I had finished designing 90% of the newsletter when I posted that, but I forgot to add Hep Kat's initial submissions. So an August 15th edition can definitely happen. I will still need more submissions, but there is no rush.
Aug 1st's edition is more or less complete but if anyone would like to get a last minute piece or two in, now's the time.

I tried to fix the bug between email clients (ie: the newsletter looks completely different with gmail and hotmail), but some of it is way to hard to figure out. Why does hotmail make links small?!?! Why does Gmail ignore all my justification?!?! But we'll have to deal with it.
If you sent in an article and it wasn't included in this edition, rest assured it will be in the 15th.

Great newsletter this month, as usual. Just got it because I just checked that email account. I check it every few days. I didn't quite understand the inclusion of the big article about sputnik growing and getting new members/becoming more "prestiges" I think was the term used. Took up alot of space for some general information. Was well written, but kind of out of place, I thought.
Oh well, at any rate, good job once again. Enjoyed it immensely.

Anyone want to run the August 15th edition? It's really easy if you use Thunderbird/Outlook/something like that. I'm going to be really busy and all of that jazz. You can also implement those cool design ideas or layouts you've been thinking of. Otherwise I don't think I'll be able to send one out.
