What should I do to start getting involved as a vocalist of a death metal band? I've been practicing growling and am going to be writing songs as soon as next week on a variety of topics. I'd like to be a vocalist of a death metal band but I don't know anyone hear who even listens to death and black metal music here except me. Maybe I'll find someone in college next month who has the same metal musical tastes I do. I live in a small town in western Tennessee and it is not a hotbed for death metal music or bands by any means. I have a myspace page so I could upload some material on there. I also have a guitar in my room I never learned how to play that I could start practicing on. I performed Morbid Angel's Where The Slime Live in a Yahoo Metal chat room and got good responses.

Look for some of the regulars at Rock & Metal who frequent the death and black metal threads and see if you can contact them via email or IM. A lot of them are in bands themselves, and my be able to offer some help.

Is there many people that you know that are just into general metal? See if they're interested, they don't need to exactly like death metal but it's a start.

Not too many I know into anything other than Nu-Metal.

You can always try opening them up gradually to new stuff. If they're into nu-metal, give them some Pantera, Megadeth, and Anthrax. From there, progress to some Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, and Cathedral. After that, get into a little Arch Enemy, Bathory, and Death.

You know, just ease them into it.

I got a My Space page I can upload songs on. I could put my Where The Slime Live redo on there and would going the Burzum route and having a one man death metal band be a bad idea? I could do it but I'd need some instrumental music that's heavy in the background.

opposite problem I have right down the road here in SC. Everyone wants to do death metal and I dont...either that or punk/emo.
Good luck.

The first Necrophagist album is all written (and recorded, i think) all by Muhammed Suicmez, so its not a bad idea. However, if you dont know how to play guitar yet, you will have to practise like crazy for a long time to work up your guitar skills to play death metal

I wrote my first song today titled Dreamy Journey. It's mostly about topics I'd think about when I'm going to sleep at night and deals with unusual things. My next song will be titled Shadow People dedicated to the paranormal alleged phenomenon of the shadow people that people think they see out of the corner of their eye. I haven't recorded either song on my computer yet though, I'm just in the writing stage right now and should have about 20 songs written by the time I'm done with the writing stage. I have a chorus line to Dreamy Journey that is sung 3 times in the song. Here it is.
I'll be sad when this journey ends
And reality has set its place
I know I am a wizard
But only in my dreams
It seems I'm heading in a black metal direction more so than the brutal death metal song content.
Edit, I wrote the song Shadow People but without a chorus.

Can you post your myspace with your cover on it? I want to hear it.

I am currently debating on making a death metal (necrophagist styled) project. I am positive I will make one since I allready have material, but I am deciding whether it will be my own or with a band.
