Staind are an alternative metal band from Springfield, Massachusetts. The band are a four piece and consist of:
* Aaron Lewis - (Vocals & Guitar)
* Mike Mushok - (Guitar)
* Johnny April - (Bass Guitar)
* Jon Wysocki - (Drums)
Now my fellow MXers, you have probably heard of this band but I'd recommend listening to a full album and just not the singles as they have a few goodies amongst them. They were part of the nu-metal scene and had been compared to Limp Bizkit and Korn though they aren't very similar. Most of their songs contain an acoustic verse and usually a distorted chorus. Aaron Lewis is the mind behind the music with his lyrics overall depressing and negative and relative to a lot of today's youth. On Staind's later albums, he'd discuss topics such as his daughter. The band produced a self-released album called Tormented. The album is Staind's rawest, angriest and more heaviest. The album only printed 4000 copies but can be obtained through the band's official site. Staind broke out when Limp Bizkit vocalist Fred Durst signed them to his Flip record label. They then released Dysfunction and their success was owed a lot to Fred Durst but the band said that they barely worked with Fred and wrote most of the album themselves. The band have sold two million copies of the album and was originally called average by critics.
During the Family Values tour, Staind had toured with Limp Bizkit and Aaron performed the hit Outside, a track which wasn't finished at the time. This set the band up for the popular Break The Cycle album. The album has since went 7x platinum (seven million copies to be exact) and spawned singles such as It's Been Awhile, Outside and Open Your Eyes. The album was critically acclaimed and pleased by fans. The group then released 14 Shades Of Grey. Sadly it was not so critically acclaimed and was slated. The album was more a drive into an alternative sound and sadly was poorly received. The group however did have massive success with single, So Far Away. The band then released Chapter V in 2005 and had success with single, Right Here.
Discography:
Tormented (1996)
Dysfunction (1999)
Break The Cycle (2001)
14 Shades Of Grey (2003)
Chapter V (2005)
Hopefully we can start some discussion on the band. I know a lot of users on this forum don't like them, feel free to express your opinion as long as it doesn't get to the point of flaming :)

Used to dig Break the Cycle back in HS. Mudshovel wasn't a bad song for what it was. Just wayyy too whiney and boring for me now. He's got a great voice IMO though.

Noone will ever sing Black like Vedder. I still get goosebumps everytime he sings the "I know someday you'll have a beutiful life..." part.
But yeah...it ain't bad.

I liked this band for about a week. Dysfunction actually had something to it, but now...they're just like everything else. Craptastic modern American rock.

They were always one of those bands where I'd rather someone punch me in the face than listen to one of their songs...
And Metal, no, not at all in any way shape or form.

Break the Cycle is their best IMO other than that it is all the same

nu-metal is nothing but a marketing term. Don't bother arguing this either because i'm not going to bother.

Yeah I agree. Nu-Metal isn't actually Metal, ignorant people named the genre.

Aaron Lewis=overgrown baboon with depression issues.
In the right light, he really does look somewhat like a gorilla, a whiny, pity-seeking gorilla.

I liked 14 shades of gray and Chapter V.
Yeah even though they do have a "mainstream" sound they have geunine emotion in their lyrics and playing.

A trend in the 90s that feature low detuned riffs and angsty lyrics. Usually simplistic.

Yeah. Pretty much.
Korn, Limp Bizkit, Staind, Mudvayne, Slipknot etc etc. = nu metal

Mudvayne has a few listenable songs. I'll give them that. Plus I like the singer's vox. I think he's pretty good, tbh.

Call me lame, but I enjoy bands such as Linkin Park, Deftones, Papa Roach and stuff. Not the best bands to be into but whatever :)

LP & PR are horrid. IMO, Deftones are withstable.
btw. I used to live in Sacramento, where the Deftones are from and PR is from Vacaville, (45 min away from sac) (vacaville is a wasteland)

And did they get a lot of attention around your area? I live about 15 minutes away from where Franz Ferdinand and Mogwai came from and the media laps them up.

How, why, wtf? Staind is nowhere near in similarity to Slipknot, Mudvayne, Disturbed, Korn, Deftones, etc...not even close. Especially with the last three albums. There is no earthly comparison, besides the downtuning, and 90% of bands in general do that nowadays.

Come to think of it, any one of those bands could've done a whole lot better. Except Avril.
