Wow, I ate oats today and I played with my metal band(I pretty much had to hit my drums and cymbals FF just to be heard, which isn't really a good thing but just to stress how much velocity I had to put into the stick) and I lasted, not only physically but mentally. I'm starting to live a healthier lifestyle, so you guys probably aren't going to see me as much since I do most my posting at night, I'm going to start sleeping ealier and going to gym regularly again, as well as deiting, and see how it will affect my drumming. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks alot Bone(aka Josiah)

lol I know josiah just teasing, thank you. No I'm not leaving, but I won't be on as much as I used to since I used to stay up late and post(amongst other things) now I'm just going to sleep and leave my late night websurfing to rest(damn you aim!)(oh myspace too). Thanks for the support though, I'll keep everyone updated. I mean, it really works I played for a pretty long time, loud and fast music, kept my focus and kept going, we played some physical stuff(lamb of god, slayer, metallica, mudvayne(sp?) and some of our originals)

I like oats and I eat them, but I don't think eating them makes two ****s worth of difference in how well you play the drums.
If so, and you're that poorly nourishend, I'd say you have bigger problems than improving your drumming.

Good move!
When I broke down my diet, I realised just how good oats really are. I usually eat a cup of oats in the morning, which gives me the same amount of carbs (complex carbs that is, none of this frosty sugar coated cereal crap!) as over 7 slices of bread. Prior to eating oats, I'd have about 3 slices of toast for brekky.
After oats, tuna is my next best friend.

good luck man. i love oats, as long as Total w/ Raisins counts as oats. i need to start eatin' more of them and less of the **** i usually eat. i could probably survive off a diet of total and freese pops if i wanted to

You must not live in america...
Over here, people's diets really are that bad. So many people I know eat fast food (near daily!!), wich is stuff I just personally won't even touch. Low and behold, they get sick, stomach aches, cholostrol problems, etc
Soemthing like 50% of americans are overweight and 30% are in the obese range.
Diet makes a massive difference despite what you think. More so then any other factor in living. In weight lifting they say it's 70% diet.

It is that bad. I know a few people who got into a compitition to see who could hit 200lbs. first. Needless to say the one who has fast food every other night won.
I have also seen people physically exaust themselves to the point of panting from simply reaching into their back pocket to get their wallet.

this is so true. i don't eat fast food everyday, but i eat out usually atleast 4 out of 7 days of the week, and while i don't get sick, or stomach aches, and i don't really know about my cholostrol, it's definatly not the best thing. i am somewhat very overweight(i'm 15, 5' 10'' and weight 225), but i tried dieting last summer, and it definatly helped. i totally feel off the dieting wagon though, which sucks, but i'm tryin' again because it definatly does help.
btw, for me, one of the keys to dieting-Gum, and LOTS of it

We all know americans are stereotypically fat with bad diets and england is going the same way because of the evil industry.
Every now and then fast food is okay but when people eat it on a daily bassis its ridiculous I mean how the hell can they afford it for a start?
Second after a while you get sick of it.
Third it's usually not even that good compared to home cooked.
I eat fast food on a weekend usually but I eat really healthy in the week bar one or two munchfests of beer and stuff.

Good idea, hope you get into better shape, Focker.
I rarely do either, in a typical week I don't even have any fast food. Ok, occasionally sometimes in a month. Alot of English people now are getting obese. They say the school dinners contribute alot to it early on.

I always try to be excercise and eat healthy but it never really lasts...mostly because I have a very, very high metabolism...I went into healthy living 2 years ago for the second time, and my weight dropped in a matter of weeks...I went from 160 to 129 pretty fast.

All steamed veg diet huh? Im looking to cut some weight before the summer ends. What is the best kinda diet to go on? I road bike or work out pretty much every day but I eat kinda bad(chips, sandwiches, fast food, etc..). Im looking lose at least 10 pounds in a month is this possible? Any tips would be awesome...

idk, to be honest steamed veg isnt that healthy, but when you cut weight for wrestling you do anything you can to lose it. im going for anorexic(sp), not healthy, which i dont think you should do.
i would say just cut the junk, and work out.

Here's a list of things you can eat throughout the day that will benefit you.
-Tuna (many other types of fish, if you are curious about one look it up)
-Lean cold cuts (some hams, turkey, etc.)
-Lean beef
-Whey protein (You can bring this with you to wherever....just bring a water bottle with you and 1-2 scoops inside)
-Chicken breast
-Wheat bread (make sure it is actually wheat; many breads say they are wheat but really aren't - try to avoid high fructose corn syrup, but some is fine)
-Milk (I would prefer skim)
-Eggs (incorporate this into your breakfast)
-Oatmeal (also breakfast)
-Cottage Cheese (before bed)
-SOME protein bars (you really have to watch on these, but SOME are decent)
- Many types of vegetables and fruits (don't be fooled, though, some are actually not that good for you)
You should also have some kind of workout routine

Oats = part of a healthy diet. But if you have a healthy lifestyle/diet anyway, chances are oats aren't gonna make that much difference.
If on the other hand you aren't that fit and eat junk food all the time... OATS, SONTS.
I... still don't know where the sonts part came from. Bone, we need you.

I think that was my point. I eat very healty, for the most part. (though I still eat pizza at least once a week.)
nutrition is very very complex. You can't just equate eating oats with being healthy. Nothing is ever that simple. There is no "wonderfood" (no,....not even soy....even though it's the current "wonderfood"....deemed by pencil pushing marketing executives).
Green tea is about the closest thing to any kind of "wonderfood". Aside from water, it's the best thing you can drink. But you can't drink the pre-bottled crap sweetened with high fructose corn syrup,....see that's what people don't understand. Nutrition can not be simplified, and there are ways to make anything that would normally be healthy into something unhealthy. I'm sure there are some kind of oats on the market with partially hydrogenated soybean oil or some other bullcrap that isn't good for you in it.
Josiah

Nobody said anythign about a wonder food. The guy is just promoting a healthy diet and has an affection for oats.
Most of what you said is crap though.. the guy Bone already gave explict reasons why.
Go back and read what he said about em, you haven't countered his arugment with anything more then fleeting self reasoning mixed with bad education.
Oats (or any highly complex carb food) has a VERY direct and VERY positive aspect. Did you not read the example about Wayne Gretsky eating pasta before a game?
I personally like to eat a baked potato about 40 mins before a gig. The energy boost is HUGE and long lasting.
Green Tea is nothing, (let alone a wonderfood!) it's flavored water that at best has some minerals. As an example, eating an apple is FAR more benificial then drinking a cup of green tea.

Yes Josiah's right. Pasta before hockey. And to the apple, they're also better than coffee at waking you up in the morning.

The fact that complex carbs give you long lasting energy seems like basic knowledge to me....something you should have learned in elementary school health class.
Oats do not seem like anything special, in the way that any other complex carbs are special,.......they are what they are.....yet people are always going on and on about oats on this forum like they're some wonderfood. It's just weird to me.
I wasn't comparing greet tea to complex carbs, if you're confused on that, then just forget I mentioned it. I merely threw it out there because it's the closest thing I can think to a "wonderfood". It has a many beneficial properties, specifically pertaining to antioxidants. If nutrition interests you then I suggest you google it.

loosing weight = common sense... Basically what you would expect was good for you, is, and what you expect isn't, likely isn't. Maby except very few things, and depending on your goals. I can eat all I want, and I don't gain an ounce of fat, because it's never a bag of chips, or chocolate bar that's loaded with trans fats and crap. You control your metabolism depending on your eating habbits. A resturant dinner once a week is ok. More than that. Is a no no. Think about it, if you wanna loose weight, you haveto burn more calories than you intake.

True, but you'd be surprised how many people still don't understand that. They think they can lose weight while sitting on their couch, eating more junk. It's sad that this is what we've come to today. I'm someone who is in shape, and always has been, so I don't understand the difficulty it is to lose weight as much as someone who's tried it, but it just seems most people aren't motivated enough.

my point was: that you don't haveto research things, take suppliments, workout, spend countless hours finding out the best way to loose weight and be healthy. All you have to do is use common knowledge. I was also summing up what other people said yes, in one post. It had nothing to do with what you said at all.
