Hello everyone, I've got an ibanez GRX170 gio, its got 2 humbuckers with a singlecoil in between them.

I just bought EMG 81/85 combo and was wondering if the single coil will be compatable with it?. My ibanez also has a 5 way switch so I heard the only way I can hook them up is if I put them on the 3 middle switchs and take out the single coil?

any help is much appreciate, thanks.

why would you ever put EMG's in a gio. you should of spent the money on a new guitar.
your guitar...im sorry to say is terrible unless you are an absolute beginner.

but no their not compatible because EMG's can be active ( not sure if yours are)

what the hell is wrong with the ibanez gio?

this is my guitar, what exactly is wrong with it? I think its pretty damn great. probably the best guitar for metal you can buy for its price range.

For the record an 81/85 combo ($200) =/= > His guitar ($260).

Well to give you an idea I Live in canada, and the guitar was about 300ish+ tax, so was close to 400 i think, got it for my 19th birthday last december, I went to steves 2 weeks ago to buy a new amp and I saw the same guitar on sale for 399+ tax, original price is like 530 + tax.

I bought a peavey bandit 112 transtube one, it kicks *** :P
I also got the pickups installed today, they sounds very very good, the single coil works with them too :)

An ibanez Gio is no wher near $530 after tax. maybe with an amp in a starter kit or something...but even then....

Yes your guitar IS compatible for those pickups , but theres no real reason for you to be upgrading your pickups. I know destroyer was kind of harsh in his saying it but indeed your guitar is a beginner guitar and There isn't too much point to putting active pickups in the guitar.

Your guitar is also made of basswood and personally, I'm not a fan of active pickups in an alder/basswood guitar ...just not my cup of tear.

well I had them installed, I think they sound great. definantly an improvement from the last pickups, I'd say it was well worth the money I spent. I can't see spending 500 bucks on a guitar that will sound any better than mine already did. there woulden't have been any point.
