I've got a Sonor Force 3001 tom I've decided to mount on a stand. Being a 3001, it has the hardware on it to mount off the bass drum.
The question is, since it's already got that sort of mount on it, would it be beneficial to go with the TAR mount?
I'd guess yes, but I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on the matter.

i dont exactly understand?
does it have the tube mount that goes into the drum and you want to put a tar mount on it?
on my 3005 set i have the tar mounts and my 10" tom is mounted on a regular boom cymbal stand... all i did was remove the felts and such and tighten the tar mount around the end of the stand... it works great
but agian i dont really understand the problem and such... maybe pictures would help

It's not a problem, just a question. It has the tube mount that goes into the drum (it doesn't penetrate the shell, though). It has nothing to do with the stand, but the means of me suspending the tom from it.
The question is, do I really need a TAR mount? Does it make a big enough difference for me to shell out that $30 to buy one? Should I use that little hook thing through the hole or the TAR?
Here's a pic:

just mount it using the mount on the drum already... i see no reason to buy a TAR mount...

But then I'd be cool. Don't you want me to be cool?

you dont have to get the tar. i have the tar and its ok. its connected to the tention rods so its a little bit harder to take them out quickly. once it came a little loose, then i tighted it and now its good. Its not like the holy grail of mounting systems but if you really think you need the extra bit of resonance, then get it.

I was sort of thinking the same thing. I remember always hearing good things about suspension mounts, but since my tom mount doesn't penetrate the shell, I wasn't completely sure I needed a TAR. Sure, it'd help, but it's not completely necessary.
And I'm too cheap to pay that $30.
