hey guys i just thought i'd post this and see if anyone else had things like this in their town...
ok so anyways i found out yesterday that there is a drum circle that meets in a park every friday and they all play their drums. Well at first i didnt' know what a drum circle was but then i found out that a drum circle is just a bunch of hippes who bring their hand drums and just play. I found a forum about this on the net and i asked if any drumsets are there but sadly they said they've only seen a couple.
but yeah i just thought that that was cool and was wondering if anyone else had things like that in their town.

There's drum circles all over the place. This town's full of hippies. They're nothing special at all; the homeless folks on street corners play exactly the same.

My buddy's parents host drum circles at their home.
Of course, his father's native Aboriginee from Australia, and his mother's a beatnick.

Drum circles can also exist as a therapy method, I'm not sure exactly what for, but you might end up dropping in on retarded people instead of hippies FYI.

I live in Goldsboro, which is semi close.
I wish this forum has an Area specific forum with a bunch of sub forums for each state. So musicians could contact other people to play with.

In theory drum circles would be really cool.
The very few times I've ever jammed with "drum circle people" I have found it kind of frustrating because most of them are not very competant musicians. i don't mean to sound so snobby, but by competant, I mean being able to
1. keep time, and play in time (4/4!),
and
2. be able to groove, play rhythms, and not play like you're continually doing a solo
This isn't to say some of the "drum circle people" aren't good. Usually I single them out instantly though, and then jammed with them later on.
I think a lot of the "drum circle people" bought a hand drum because they thought drumming was easy and "you just hit stuff" so they really don't understand things like ....accents, or grooving, or mother-earth forbid: syncopation.....and so they're mistified when they see a drummer who can, ....like we have some sort of spiritual power or something (oooh aaaahh, oooooh aaaahh).

too true! too true!
yeah i thought that might be a problem.
i imagine syncopation would be the least likely thing to find. cause when i started syncopated songs it was Freshman by Verve Pipe (or at least i think thats the artists name) and that was hard for me at first.
