View Full Version : Problem, with money!

Right, i'll start with the bad news.
My snare drum (tama rockstar) as a dodgey lug/tension rod. The rod that is closest to where i sit keeps coming loose, and making that side of the head become all wrinkly, like your grandma. Is there anyway to stop that, or is my lug/tension rod knackered?
Good news is that it was my birthday on sunday, and i now have £250 (460 USD), so i'm gonna post a picture of my drum kit, and i want you to throw suggestions of what i should buy.
Ohhh, and a note, no brand whoring. Just general things. No, "get a Zildjian A custom ride with uber coating with 9 rivets and a testical dangling off it". Instead, just say "get a new ride cymbal".
I'd rather not spend all the money, as i have to buy stuff like clothes, condoms, computer parts, but i will do whatever sounds best within the price range.
I don't say something that is obviously over £250, because i honestly can't be fecked to save up.
So here is my kit, and throw your suggestions at me!

A stool (A good one will be around £100).

I don't know about the lug, but I'd definatley say replace your hats and/or ride. Dunno about over there, but 460 USD is more than enough to buy at least one of those things, so if you buy a nice pair of hats or a nice ride you'll still have some left over for whatever else you want.
e: Oh, damn, yeah. If you don't have a real drum throne, get one of those posthaste.

Yuh, i was thinking that. the problem is i don't have time to go to exeter and try one out for about 3 weeks due to work and holiday :(
I've been to try thrones before, and they have some real nice ones, so i'll probably end up buying one.

I got a Tama 1st chair throne for a decent price, it hasnt let me down yet.
P.S, your Rockstar is in my opinion pretty sweet! Mine has a crappy green/gray finish, with an odd snare.

A throne seems to be what you need most. Other than that I don't think you should get anything, as you don't seem to need or want anything else.

Take the damn muffling off the toms, don't blame the heads because you can afford decent ones now.
Probably then a throne or a new snare.
Maybe another cowbell.
What cymbals do you have now?

muffling isnt always such a bad thing, if it gives you the sound you're looking for then theres no problem with it, unless its excessive, which here it isnt
anyways, id say a throne, or maybe just get a new snare? or at least get the tension rod fixed

that snare's an easy repair. Your local shop should do it for almos nothing, its just a couple screws that need to be fixed

Looking at the picture, the Lug is in at a weird angle. Maybe thats the reason. I will definatly be getting a new stool, and tom/bass drum batter heads. If i have some money left, i'll get a new crash cymbal to replace that 302, then i'll start saving for new hats and ride. But i need to go test the istanbul/paiste rack before i make any desicions.
As for muffling. Meh, i like the sound my toms give off with it on, so therefore, i don't care what you think.

Well, new bass drum head is definatly on the list. I just put a massive hole in it :( I've had it for about a year and a half though so it's totally acceptable.
Evans Emad for me.
I have to cash some cheques tommorow morning, then wait for 2 and 1/2 weeks, then come back to england and buy me stuff.
