View Full Version : So I had a bunch of gear stolen...

Yeah. Some jerkoff in the middle of the night broke into my van with a bunch of my band's musical equipement in there, and stole all of my pedals, all my guitarists pedals, my guitarist's favorite guitar, my guitarist's amp, and one of my basses.
I really, really hate people right now. Like, you have no idea.

oh man that is so terrible. I feel your pain. Makes me angry on a wednesday morning. Good luck. Is there any way to identify your gear? serial numbers etc.

07-19-2006, 02:15 AM
Holy crap man, that sucks. Are you able to get by without that bass and the pedals?
HaVIC5
07-19-2006, 02:20 AM
Yeah, my real bass wasn't stolen, just my fender with a ****ty neck. I never wrote down the serial numbers (BIG MISTAKE, BTW), so the likelihood of them being found is slim. My pedals were toys, really, I didn't need them, but man they were expensive.

I know it sucks for you, but it sounds like it sucks a little worse for your guitarist. His favorite guitar AND amp. That's ****ing harsh. And two sets of pedals...what an a-hole.
Dang. Sorry that had to happen man.
You know, I gig every weekend and often come home really late, like around 2 or 3 am. And sometimes I'm just too tired to carry all my equipment out of the car and back into the house. So I'll just leave it in the car and get it in the morning. lol, I think I won't do that anymore.
Equipment thieves should be punished in hell by the most gruesome, harshest, and evilest of ways.

Do you not have insurance or anything? so at least you might be able ot get some of the stuff back on that.

I don't know if yours did, but the number one rule of having a band van is that it MUST NOT look like one.
There's a local band from round here who had a shiny new van... painted silver, with the name of the band, and 'Licensed To Rock!' painted down the side, all that kind of thing... they may as well have painted 'Full of expensive stuff!'. It was broken into, and they lost over £10,000 in equipment.
A friend of mine's band knew them well. Now HIS band uses a rusted blue van with no logo or anything bar very faded writing advertising hygiene supplies.
Anyway, sorry to hear your stuff's gone missing. :(

This exact thing happened to a local band here, although they haven't learnt anything from the experience, because now they're using a minibus. :amaze:

a local guitarist here had his good gear stolen from the footpath outside his house. a few bands (including the one im in) are playing a special fundraiser show for him to get his funds/gear back.
maybe something like that might work?

that really sucks about your gear. You might get some of it back if you are lucky. On Talkbass somebody had his Sadowsky and his double bass returned four and three years after they were stolen.
Ouch.
I hope you are able to track down some of it, Or better yet catch the bastards who did it.
EDIT: Just though I would include this as a motivational story of how some "bad guys" got what was coming to them.

I can only hope that if you/the cops can't track them down this time they will be caught the next.

I am so sorry that that happened to you, such a seemingly nice guy.
Hop over to Talkbass, they have a stolen gear thread, throw down a thread over there, you never know.
Check pawn shops, check ebay, check ANYWHERE someone could get rid of the gear they stole, because more than likely it wasn't for the gear, but for money.
Best of wishes in finding your stuff.

It's low to steal anything man, people dont realize how hard some may work just to get mediocre things, and im certain havoc and his mates probably had quite a few pennys invested. Such a shame man, good luck in finding it hope it turns up sometime

Some guy who was on here a month or so back who was posting about how he stole the bass he's playing in the photo, and being a general douche.
This is an interesting site i found on the "Links" page of Radiohead's website, http://www.stringsreunited.com/, seems like it's just getting started, but I think it's a great idea.

People who steal music stuff should be killed slowly and painfully.
Like being sodomised by a guy with a jagged metal bat for a dick and hooks for hands and slowly having your penis sanded off.
Lesson you learn is don't leve anything in your van overnight.

my thoughts exactly. You are at fault really. I don't even leave my ipod in my car (let alone tons of band equipment) because i know if someone sees my ipod on the dashboard, it'll be gone before you know it. I hope you find your stuff, but i also hope you learn a valuble lesson: don't trust ANYBODY. good luck.
I would cry for a week straight if anything of mine or my band mates got stolen.
I just have this odd image in my head of some guy running off into the dark with a bass, guitar, amp, and pedels clutched under his arms...then I wake up and realize that no one person could do this unless they lived close enough to make several trips, had a van/truck, or had friends with him.

haha his house didn't burn down, it just caught on fire :THUMB:
My house insurance covers everything in the house and everything owned by its inhabitants.
Example: if my guitarists place floods/gets robbed/catches fire and my stuff is damaged/destroyed/stolen...my (more specifically, my mother's) insurance will cover it. Not sure how that works.

Your mom would have to sign an affidavit, in which she swore under the pains and pelanties of purgeory that those items were indeed in the house.

Also post this on talkbass.. Tell them what kind of gear and more backgroundinformation about you. You're a pretty good bassplayer, so I bet that they look around the 'bay for your stuff.

Try coming home at 1:30 am after a ten hour recording session and lugging all your equipment inside and then I'll heed your advice. The stuff was stolen when the van was parked in my driveway, by the way.

That's so so sh*t :( I kind of feel your pain.. I had something stolen from me once and the police never caught the thief and there's a horrible feeling in your stomach of you just wishing you could catch the arsehole that did it.
Hope you can claim on insurance or even get it all back! :thumb: Keep us informed on what happens :)
And to Aukai: huh? So because he's a total jazz machine and a great player it makes it worse? That's just stupid.. If an average player lost all his gear it's just as bad.. and just as gutting for them. I know you said you didn't mean to sound like an *** when you said that.. but it's kind of hard not to when you say that!

Adam: I didnt mean any disrespect but I think i made a good point. Theres creeps in the world and its best
And no, I dont know what its like doing 10-hour recording session and coming home at one, but I do know what its like to work from 9-5 and then hit up a jazz club and playing until 2 and 3 in the moring and then having to unload.

i know what its like to work 28 hours (one time that happened though) and then have about half an hour to sleep before i have to be at rehearsal and almost leave my bass in the rehearsal room, out of my being tired and not giving a ****...good thing i had bandmates eh?
that was one crazy first day at work...
EDIT: i may sound weird right now because I just got home from another day at work, 2 months later, only today i did 15 hours (but on 3 hours of sleep the night before) and i have band practice in about 6 hours

try coming home at 5:30am after a 15 hour recording session after working a double shift on 0 hours of sleep :p i always bring my stuff back in.
at the very least, i bring all of my basses, as the amp i bring out to play isn't that expensive to begin with. a lot of lifting and hard work for a thief to make $50. at the very least, park it in a closed garage if you have one/have room
i am glad i've never had anything major stolen. the only thing that's happened is someone stole my mother****ing amp's power cord after we played one night. stole all of our power cords. none of us even noticed. stealthy bastards. i am still pissed
