Hey there, been painting my bass and I'm having a bit of difficulty getting the coat to be super smooth and a bit glossy, I can get it smooth but it still looks a bit orange peel, even though to the touch it's not.

Any tips on how to get it super smooth? All I can think of is spray the paint on really thick, but that gets runs :(

sand the whole thing down and fill in all the holes and pores in the wood with wood filler for the holes and a thin layer of wood glue (what i use) for the pores (or preferably wood sealer). however if you can get us decent pictures you might not need to do all that. and what do you mean by orange peel?

spray some primer on that stuff first, then do thin coats of your color (orange?)

i think hes talking about the orange peel(little einy bubbles thta happen when you spray on piant) what i would do is get a buffing machine and sorta smooth it out with the buffer

Indeed, sanded and buffed it's smooth, but it looks rough.

I put on primer and I'm doing thin coats, I guess I'm just gonna have to keep going at it till it's smooth and solid? It's getting better after every coat, I just guess it's going to be 10 coats instead of 5 or whatever. Oh well :(

Ooh: for the final layer of lacquer, I buff that up till it's smooth right? OR is it possible to use super high grit sandpaper? I just don't want lots of scratch lines on it.

Thanks for the help!

use really high grit sand paper, until you get as smooth as youd like. then, when your done with that you can use Acetone to clean up the clear coat.
