i rarely post here but there are so many good things going on my musical life right now that i felt like letting the world know, hahaha... anyway, as most of you (don't) know, i'm currently playing in a new school punk band and a screamo band... well with the punk band, we're almost finished recording our first EP and we're invited to play a huge show in bogotá (colombia's capital city) next month, which is huge... hahaha im gonna "tour"! apart from that, STRUNG OUT is playing in medellín the fifth of august... its the best thing thats ever happened to the local punk scene cuz foreign bands rarely come to colombia and when they do, they usually only play in bogotá... well theyre playing here, and theyve chosen my band to be one of the opening acts. its gonna be in a large club with capacity for 3,000 people, and its probably gonna be packed, im so fcking excited. then in september were going to bucaramanga, another city in colombia, to play.
now with the screamo band... well here in medellin the city organizes an annual free rock festival at a huge open-air venue where local as well as foreign bands play... and they host a battle of the bands type contest to choose which local bands get to play. the contest consisted of first sending in a recording of the band, from those who enter, ten are chosen per musical style, and then the city hosts a series of free concerts at a free outdoor theatre (about 3,000 people), and then from there two bands per musical style are chosen to play at the huge festival... but apart from that, when they get the first entries, they pick the best band of the category as the special guests, which also play at the smaller shows but dont even compete, theyre automatically selected for the big one... well last night was the ceremony where they announced the winners of the first round and my screamo band (LAST DAWN) was chosen as the special guest in the "new tendencies" category where they lump metalcore, numetal, rapcore, screamo, etc.... so in november ill be playing in front of at least 10,000 people alongside the best bands in colombia and a few yet-to-be-mentioned foreing bands... its gigantic, last year a total of 38,000 people went to the festival (counting both days though). im scared out my mind, its so overwhelming... so to give this thread a point, have any of you played huge festivals or venues, and if so, what recommendations or cool stories do you guys have?

CONGRATS!! Sounds like alot of fun! :D

My band played the city-festival this summer, remember to drink alot of water because it gets hot on the big stage ;) and be sure to use all the space for your stage antics. Practise alot before the show, my band played whitout flaws, be sure that you do that aswell, good luck :)

BTW, Medellín, isn't that the most criminal city in the world? That used to be controlled by a druglord?

it used to be really dangerous until about two or three years ago, its fine now in most, if not all of the city... and pablo escobar was from medellín and had a lot of power but it wasnt like he controlled the city, hahah you make it sound like mogadishu or someplece like that... but that was over ten years ago, he was killed back in 1993. and medellin is a pretty large, developed city, theres over 4 million people in the metropolitan area and metro and everything... oh and the weather is perfect... its awesome i love it

okey, good to hear :) I read an article about it in National Geographic, they portrayed it as it was all outlaws and crime in the entire city.

Congrats from the sound of it.

I only got about 4 lines into your story, then the big paragraph just became too much.

yeah that's the one that got chosen for the huge festival...
and to the bass swede... they actually took the pictures and wrote that article about two years before it was published, its so much better now... it gave medellín such a bad rep :-(
and to summarize the whole story, with one band im opening for strung out and with another we got chosen to play at an outdoors rock festival with over 10,000 spectators in november
