Ashdowns are loud, and have part-tubey ness for a grindy type thing.
Peaveys also spiring to mind, but I have little experience with either.
The GK head would also be loud, and has a built it distorion circuit, which I personally really like.
I guess try and find somewhere to try these things out maybe?

you can't get a "grindy" enough tone with your ampeg? what do you set your gain to? I'd say that you probably need to fiddle with your settings more to get more grind. as for loudness, you could just use the preamp from your svt-3 and run that thru a separate power amp that has more wattage than the one built into the SVT-3.

another good option would be to get a SansAmp RBI to use as a preamp. those sound awesome and i'll bet you could get your sound out of that. but you'd need to buy a poweramp too in that case. other suggestions if you go the pre/power amp setup....
an Aguilar preamp (they have a few nice ones)
Ampeg SVP-CL
Ampeg SVP-pro

For a big fat tone with a lot of grind I can think of nothing better (for the price...) than either a Sansamp RBI, or BDDI and a power amp.

no man i cant.. ive had this amp for over a year and although ive dialed in a cool useable tone its just not the sort of tone i want..

ive recorded with it a few times and its cool for that but for life stuff i neeeeed more volume and a biggger sound!

i am going to check out the pre/power amp setup. at least then i could change single parts in the future.

sansamp RBI with a QSC RMX 1450 and 1x15 under your 4x10 (impedances don't match though..). If you don't have much cash I guess an old peavey cs400 would work for a power amp too.

if you're into spending cash go with a PLX instead of an RMX.... :D

I would look into an Eden WT550, I love mine and it has a great EQ that can just pump out the bass if you need it.

There's some simple rules for picking a power amp.
1. More power = More better :p
2. Get one that has an internal fan
3. Get one that allows for correct impedance matching, or allows for a variety of impedance setups (i.e. stereo vs. bridged mono)
4. This one is obvious, but worth noting... Get one that has compatible output jacks with the input jacks of your cab. I tried to use my rack with a crate cab a venue was using as part of its backline, but it didn't have compatible inputs so I couldn't use it and had to use my cab instead.
5. More power = More better :p (in case you didn't hear it the first time  )

Edge, I have a question. Is it bad if your head has more wattage than your cabs?

So if you run a 500W head thru two cabs rated at 200W each, is it going to damage them?

i think it depends on how loud you turn up your head? but i think edge can answer a million types better than that

^^^Nothing wrong with it at all. Just realize that it is possible to overpower your speakers. That being said, it is definitely NOT a silent killer. You can hear it when you're pushing your speakers too hard. At that point you simply back-off your volume/gain and you'll be fine. Trust me... There is NOTHING wrong with headroom :thumb:

Just for the record I consistantly run my QSC PLX1602 (1600 watts into a 4 ohm load) into an 800 watt 8x10, OR a 75 watt 1x15 and have absolutely no problems whatsoever with my rig.

hmm if im not mistaken.. your not gonna get much more power if you change your head.. cause isnt the svt3 pro rated at 450 watts at 4ohms? and your cab is 500 watts at 4ohms?

if you get a louder head, youll just get more head room.. 50 watts wont really give you that noticeable of a volume boost.. im not to good with the math but its probably like >2 Db or something

.. or maybe i missed something.. ( i didnt completely read the hole thread :) )
