Is it a good idea or should I just stick to Roundwound?

there is no problems with flats on a fretted.

try it, you may like it.

I liked it for a while, went back to rounds, then went back to flats, and hated the flats, and now I play uber rounds.

I say try them and if they are not for you then just go back to rounds. I did and I discovered I prefer rounds mainly because the slap sound is bad with flats (IMO).

If you are looking for the dull thuddy tone then yeah go for it.

Yeah, to me flats sound like strings that have gone dead. If you like the sound of your roundwounds after you've worn them out, then go with flats.

they are tighter and means you can play faster but the are also crap for any slap/tapping, which is fine as that stuff is just for wnaking really
they give a duller thud much like an upright bass or 70's rock stuff so if thats what you want do it other wise they won't fit the style of music

Thomasik Infeld flatwounds feel looser than most flats and even roundwounds. I don't like them anymore.
