Ok I just put a new locking nut on my geetar, as the thread of one of the other ones was screwy, and I'm having a few problems. Random frets arn't ringing out (as if the action is to low) and there's a little buzz (although that could be because they're brand new strings). So I'm guessing I need a shim? Or raise the action.
My previous nut had a shim, but it seems that my new nut has a divet on it's bottom face where as the previous nut had a flat face, which means when the shim I have is put in, the screws can't reach the thread of the new nut.
So...? Thinner shim?
Edit: Ok I just raised the action a little bit, and the random frets not ringing out seems a little better, but I don't want to go much higher with the action.
Thanks.
Edit 2: Ok I put a thin cardboard shim on and it seems to work, but now I have another problem (probably not related to previous one). Whenever I do a tremelo dive it sounds like the strings are slipping at the nut, causing it to go out of tune. The pads are as tight as they are going to go..so?
