Yes, Cheap. Probably crappy compared to even a squier. But I have always wanted a plain bass to mess with when I don't want to play my guitars. I have never owned a bass, but I have played my friend's p bass and rick 4003 for over a year when I am at his place, and I know a thing or two as far as technique.

there she is. Feature wise, nothing really different from a squier, and possibly better considering Squier has been using Agathis wood lately, I am glad to see alder on the feature list. Bridge is probably cheap, tuners I also bet are, but reviews arent bad at all on HC for example (then again, it IS $109). Has D'Addario strings :), saves me $20~. And I expect to do a setup, if bad enough I can bring it to my local shop.

I have a 10" bass speaker to make use of, I can use my epiphone valve junior as the amp.

Definatly never going to be gigged btw, I am a guitarist for life, just looking for a side affair. I just want something that at least doesn't fret out anywhere after a setup and has working electronics.

So, worth $109 or not?

They are great.

Any personal experience? Played one?

If they play or sound like they look, it should be a winner.

they're not very good from what i HEAR, but any bass that works for that price is probably a reasonable deal.

I have one and it sounds/plays great.

Haven't had any problems with it.

It will probably just need a good setup if you get it.

Alright, so kinda opposite ends of the spectrum on comments (though mr.pickle has no personal experience). But factoring in the price I dont see any real issues. And any electronic problems I can fix myself need it be.

I will take your word for it, SquierBasser, and it is only $130 including shipping. So, after I get speakers for my 2x12 I will get the SX.

thanks for the comments.

i've played one. great bass for the price, but not necessarily a great bass. the tone is nothing special at all, nothing unique that would seperate it from other beginner basses and it didn't play all that great. the neck was a little on the chunky side and neck dive was apparent.

seems perfect for what you want it for, but i wouldn't expect it to hold up if you started taking bass seriously.

Well I am not into Precisions, and I have not heard great things about SX; but if you are a guitarist who just wants a bass to mess around with than it is probably perfect for you, you don't need some nice bass to mess around.

Have fun with it.

I am not much a fan of Jazz's tbh. Never feel comfortable when I play them, and I wouldnt bet the quality is any different.

eh, comments about not holding up probably ring true. I kinda would hope I could get something cheap that will last but that probably wont happen.

so, one more thing though, This washburn caught my eyes, http://www.music123.com/Washburn-T24-Taurus-Neck-Through-i95672.music . Yeah it's a little more than I personally want to spend, but would this be a worthy investment? I could easily put some cash aside in a few months to get one, and everything about I like.

so, worth the extra cash or just get an SX? I would rather put money in quality if I can afford to do so without much more effort than getting the SX. And besides it can be a backup bass for my bassist in my band need it be. Any thoughts on the washburn?, I havent actually played one.

Reason I even looked at music123 to see what basses they have, was because I kinda am going on some of my guitar purchase regrets. I bought a les paul copy, and it needs some fret work to compete with my Gibson SG, I am kinda spoiled as far as the job on the neck. One of you guys mentioned neck diving, ouch. Thats not something I like to hear, even enough to make me not buy a $109 bass...Though I havent thrown getting the SX out the window completely.

Do you like Musicman basses? If so check out the OLP MM-2. It is sort of like a Musicman Squier, but way higher quality. I have one, and I have no desire to upgrade it. They are sturdy and reliale.

Actually yeah they are pretty nice looking. I will consider one, I hear good things about OLP often.

go for the washburn. they are really good. if you don't want to spend as much money for the T24, look for a Washburn XB100. they're really nice, and cheaper.

i'd say the washburn is worth more than it costs, since it is in fact a neckthrough bass

I have an SX SPJ62. They are great basses for modding. I switched the pickups out of mine for a set of bartolini's, man tt sounds awesome. If you want more opinions of people with firsthand expierence check out http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57599

I always say if you don't have enough to afford at least an MIM Fender, you should go used. Look around at local music stores and pawn shops, sometimes you can find a decent deal.

I have one of those SX's, it's a bit diff looking, but was the same price etc, and I like it MUCH more than my friends Squier, and as much as my other friends MIM Fender, they are definately a steal.

alright, if it is anything more than the squiers I tried, I would really like it.

Well, used is always an option but I wouldnt doubt a modded SX would stand up to a mim fender if it had no wood issues.
