A member of my band has a Fernandes with the sustainer pickup in it. I've played it a few times and it seems like it would be a real useful addition to my setup. But rather than buy a brand new guitar I'd like to eventually put the sustainer pickup in my 62' reissue Jazzmaster.

My question is would this be possible? I'm not handy when it comes to this stuff at all. I know a guy who would be able to install the pickup, so I'm not worried about it being done correctly, I'm just curious to see if the pickups would fit in the Jazzmaster body. And would it sound good in a Jazzmaster? Thanks in advance.

The Jazzmaster pickup is a singlecoil with a large pickup cover, they're lasrger than a P90.

I'm not sure what the routing is like under the pickguard (I've never taken it off mine, but it possibly might fit a humbucker. I think making a humbucker size hole in the pickguard is going to be the most difficult.

BTW, I really want to put an EMG in mine, it's sound wicked

I think I know a guy who does good work on modding and such so that's not really the issue. I just am wondering if I would lose any sound quality I guess.
