i guess itd be more of modding already built guitars/basses
im an aspiring one whos sixteen and is on a limited budget, i have drills and saws and crap, but i think i need a router and some files
what size files would i need for scalloping frets n such, and would a dremel be a suitable router for my needs/wants?

A 1/4 inch round file is good for scalloping frets, but you could use any round file or even a pencil with sandpaper wraped around.
A dremel isn't that great as a router, the only thing i'd route with it would be inlay channels. Dremels are abit underpowered for heavier routing.

what would you suggest, i mean im guessing the most routing id do, for now at least, would be making electronics cavities bigger and more spacious, and maybe routing a sigle coil spot for a humbucker
but i have no idea about what ill want to do in the future
also, im going to attepmt to cut a monkey grip in my little strat just for fun, what would you suggest for that?

For scalloping, I personally recommend buying as many different dowel sizes as you can, and some good sandpaper.
I don't think a dremel would work too well, so I'd get a porter cable router. It'll be your most often used power tool, without a doubt. And that's what you'd want to use for the monkey grip as well.

I don't have any links for routers, but before you buy anything educate yourself abit so
you end up with a decent router.

I wouldn't skimp on a router, it is a very versatile tool, theres not much you can't do with a router. Get a decent router and use good quality bits and you wont be disapointed.
A dowel = http://www.hiflykites.co.za/kite-online-shop/dowel-6mm-accessories.GIF
Pretty much just a round piece of wood.
