name explains it all.. Basically im to cheap to buy a loud cab with the specs i want..
What im looking for is 1x15 inch, and 2x10 inch speakers, and a tweeter. A bass playing friend of mine ( with 30 years XP) made his own, and this is who i got the idea for. So i thought id do some research and make my own..
Is there anything i should look out for when making my own? Any websites worth visiting? Parts i need?
I got told about magnetic filters and black speaker carpet, and i need o know where to get them.
Thanks!

for the carpet visit a place like Lowes or Home Depot and look for outdoor carpet. This stuff has a rubber backing and last FOREVER
if your making your cab from plywood check the quality before you buy. If there's an abundance of knot holes that have been patched (the lil oval patches on the surface of the plywood) or any voids you can see from the sides it'll usually have voids in the middle
try to find the best quality plywood thats void free. Baltic birch plywood is great, but a lil bit more expensive when building cabs compared to other types of plywood.
thats all for the wood and carpet that i have for now, hope it helps a lil bit

Yeah cheers. And that is a mighty fine looking cab ^^ I find myself getting pretty turned on by it.
What about putting it all together and stuff? Does it matter what size tweeter i get? and does the wattage have to correspond to the wattage of the speakers at all?

in the scratch, dent, and overstock section they have some extra 15's that look to be a good deal

Ooooh, Rowan's making a cab! Cool, cool. I hope to start building one myself sometime by the end of this year, maybe early next year. Whenever I get my stuff set up, basically...
But honestly, a cab isn't too hard. A bit of woodworking skills... and just put a box together! Hehe. I think there's a book on it, that gets into the more detailed stuff... I'll tell you when I find the name of it.

Cheers peg. i'v decided now im also gonna go ahead and build a head to go with it. It'll be based around a simplified version of the acoustic 360. Im trying to find 3 schematics for it by different people, to triple check its all correct. any help welcome :P
Anyone here apart from Mr Pickle built there own bass cab / head / combo before?

A head? That'll be a bit tough. Do you already have a head? Or at least a line-out on your current amp? I would start with the cab and see how that goes.

if you really want to go with a DIY cab.... nothing... NOTHING compares to a Bill Fitzmaurice cabinet design: http://www.billfitzmaurice.com
nothing like a single 10" enclosure that will compare with an 8x10 :naughty:

just be careful with the capacitors when building the head hehe might get a bad shock =]

I believe constructing a cab is pretty difficult because you have to tune it correctly to make sure it sounds decent.

yeah i hjeard of capacitors in a cab discharging... but my dad can sort that out. hes been in that area of buisness long enough :P 30 years commision engineering..
And tuning the cab to get a good sound is someone elses area, and i know just the guy. Im planning everything out right now though. But im definatlyt having 1x15 and 2x10's. No tweeter, because they just sound crap to me, to much finger noise.
No i havnt got a head at the moment, i posted a thread about that somewhere else ( about getting a behringer head) but now i feel like going behringer is a bad idea lol... maybe warwick. more on that later
