hey guys im a drummer and am remodeling a fender strat...

i know how to do all the body work and that garbage my guitarist and i have decided to put an EMG 81 along with two EMG-S single coils for pickups

seeing these are active pickups i know they need battery power and such so here is my question:

where on the guitar would the battery be located? and will i need to cut a new hole in the back of the guitar in order to hold the batteries for the active pickups? or will it be located in the knob portion of the body?

You could try going J-Retro style and just having it in the control cavity

^^ yeha, control cavity is where people seem to usualy put it.

or if you don't use the trem, you could block it, and put it in there

also, personaly i'd go for HSH (just because it looks cooler, and you have an added humbucker in the neck) although if you want the tone of a single in the neck, i guess it woudn't be a good idea. altough, the 89 can be coil splitted...

Remove the jack from the jack plate, then flip the jack plate upside down (so it pops out of the body instead of in) put the jack back on n there should be enough space inside the cavity to put the battery in there. No routing or squeezing it into control or trem cavity:thumb:

^ or you could put the battery where the output jack is and put the out put jack on the edge of the guitar

He'd have to cover the hole with something besides the jack plate, and it would look funny. Your best bet is to put it in the control cavity. You may have to route some, but as long as you make sure it's under the pickguard you'll be fine. That's the exact same setup I have in my Strat copy and it sounds pretty good. I like the SA in the neck, it's a nice break from the 81 in the bridge.
