If there already is a thread on this then i'm really sry but maybe you could point me in the right direction?
Ok so anyway, I've had some pedals for quite some time and i have this distortion pedal that has Scoop on it. I've fiddled with it before and the effect of it is quite slight.
so could someone explain what exactly Scoop is for and in what way is it best used?

huh... sry i'm a bit slow... not too sure what mid is actually... iknow it's a know on the amp but not really too sure what it's for..
Basically, the sound you make is divided across the whole spectrum of sound. The spectrum is divided into frequencies... the 'mids' control the strength of your sound at the frequencies in the middle of the spectrum - in the same way that the bass controls the low frequencies & the treble the high ones. 'Scooping' the mids - removing most of the mids - results in a more 'metally' rythm tone. This is because the more mids you have, the more 'meaty' your sound is - removing this 'meat' makes for harsh, thumping guitar sound. Of course, the more 'meat' you remove from your sound, the harder you are to hear in a mix - hence most solo guitar tones boost the mids, so that you cut through the mix of instruments better.
Hope that helped :)
