Cymbals you use...

I'm working on saving $1000 to go to Guitar Center and buy some new cymbals/hardware.
I just need some ideas for cymbals to look for. I basically need a hihat, ride, and crash, and I'd prefer the hihat and ride wern't more than $300 each, and the crash no more than $170. Basically because I wanted to still get a new bass pedal (probably a pearl elimnator, single pedal, that way I can get a slave drive when I have more money) and then with the money left over I wanted to get a china and a splash and hardware for both cymbals. So if you could tell me what you use, and what you think of them, I'd greatly appreciate it.

14" New Beat hi-hats, they're pure sex. if you've got a shop with good prices they should be about $200.

That is sooo reachable, you will have enough money to get almost any cymbal you want... if this is in the US.

Go to guitar center, and try out everything, start with hats, and find a good pair, i suggest 14" AAX Stage hats, then find a nice ride, im liking that 21" AA Rawbell Dry Ride, but with your money check out some Ks or HH(X)s, then you have a lot of options left for a crash.

Edit: yes, new beats are zildjian, and all the ones except the K's are sabian, Ks are also zildjian, K custom rides are also nice.

Alright well I want atleast $200 left over for a new pedal and additional hardware for the cymbals. I was thinking about getting a full crash for the first new crash.

a paiste sig full crash? if you get that, i will love you, those are sooo good. They are expensive crashes but worth it IMO. If your a smart shopper you will easily have 200, maybe 300 dollars left over.

well The HHX evolution pack is a great buy if not get some new beats, maybe a K custom or A custom Crash, and a K ride

I am in love with the sabian Vault Hi-hats which i hope i'll be getting for my birthday on the nineteenth. GC has them for $300, but you can always make them give you a bit of a deal, but Musiciansfriend has them for $270, so GC will match that.

As for rides, i've never heard a ride i really liked, like one that i would buy, so i can't help you there.

Well, I would like having lots of cymbals. So I can do some Chris Adler kind of stuff (if you saw the video of him going back and forth from cymbals) which is why I wanted a crash, ride and possibly a china.

If you dont know much about cymbals and all the different brands, then make sure you dont rush into buying anything, like if a salesman is telling you that you need to get "this cymbal" or whatever, go by what you like and take some time to consider all of your options.

edit: just read part of the thread, if your going for a china, a 16" zildjian oriental china trash, a sabian 16" HHX china, or a 16" paiste 2002 novo china would be my best bets.

bad idea to ever tell the salesman how much money you have to spend, just dont tell them anything about the amount you have, anyways, if you are looking into a darker sound get something like k/k customs, hh/hhx, im not fimiliar with the paite lines, and i find that my guitar center at least carries a very limited selection of paistes, if you are looking for a brighter cymbal go a custom or aax, and try everything before you buy

If a sales men tells me what to buy, I'll just tell him that I'm the one playing the cymbals, I'll choose on my own. I just wanted to get opinions on cymbals though, to help me narrow down my search faster.

As far as crashes go, I would definently check out A Customs. The are very versitile and bright. As for a ride, maybe a K Heavy or sweet ride. New Beats for hats... imo

All the cymbals are brilliant finish.

I crash ride the Stage ride alot. It makes for a good crash too.

The stage hats are awesome. Very versatile. Great open, half open and closed sounds. Nice chick sound too.

If you only need hats, ride, and 1 crash I recommend stage hats, stage ride, and an 18" or 19" AA medium thin or medium crash. You could use the stage ride as either a crash or a ride since you only have 1 crash.

When you get the cash go to GC and try them all out. Experiment with different rides and hats to see if they compliment each other. You should deffinately have a fair bit of cash left over.

I'd reccomend you try these out and consider them:
14" Zildjian New Beats
14" Sabian Regular
14" Sabian AAX Stage hats
14" Paiste 2002 Soundedge hats

Zildjian Avedis 20" Medium ride (The only "real" ride I've tried that I actually really liked. Versatile too)

There are so many great crashes from all the brands that it's impossible to suggest one to you. Try out the top end lines from Paiste, Zildjian and Sabian and see which take your fancy.

Well I was thinking on getting 15" Hats, but I have to listen to them.
As far as crashs go, I'm going to probably get a 17" full and then maybe a cheap, thin crash, that I can mess with and just **** up and make it sound trashy, or I could just buy one already trashy. Anyway, I'm going to go look at paiste cymbals and listen to them. Especially the 2002's.

I wouldn't suggest listening to everyone who said to get New Beats unless you test them in every way possible...they sound like garbage to me.

I would get K/Z or Quick Beat hihats, K Dark Thin or A thin crashes, Paiste Sig Full or A Sweet Rides, and a 20" Oriental Classic china. (they're all Zildjian except for the Sig)

Those are just what I like and would suggest, so make sure you try anything and everything before buying...Except the classic china...you can just go ahead and buy that. :p

My 20" K Custom Ride is by far my favorite cymbal on my drumset. When I first hit one at a guitar center, my eyes widened, pupils dialated, and my ears shat themselves.

I would recommend a 16" novo if it wouldn't cost at least $250-300, probably more (its a custom order size).

For hats, I suggest AAX 14"stage hats or studio hats (maybe even a combo of both).

Crash:2oo2 Full crash, AA Medium-thin, or Vault.

Ride: 2oo2 deep full ride, 2oo2 ride, anything 2oo2 really.

China: 18" novo, 19" Paragon, if you can find an Innovations 18".

Splash: 8" Dark Energy pure and simple
