Probably the wrong forum Kilian. There's an Other Instruments forum (i think thats it's name! Which is mainly made up of keyboardists :thumb: )Who am I not to try this out?

So hello neighboors! I'm a bassplayer and I'm playing in a band. We're playing poprock and we sound like: http://www.myspace.com/4for1 Anyway, enough whoring. I'm looking to buy a synth for this band and home use. Why? Because sometimes we want to have a few weird sounds through a song and it's always a nice add-on for gigs.

So what am I looking for?
- I've got 300 euro's right now ~ make that 300 dollars too, because everything is more expensive here.
- It should really have the fat, distorted bass sound you can't get with a normal bass.
- If it has a simple drum program or something like that in it, nice! We have a few songs where it's drum, vocals and clapping right now.
- Basically it needs to have 'cool functions that you can use in a band situation'

Well.. I'm a zero in synthland, can you guys/girls help me out?

i would recommend a Alesis Micron over the microKorg, both are 400$ so do some research on them.

You might find a vintage analog for below the Microkorg/Alesis price range. I bought a Micron a while back, thinking that all analog synths were $2k like the minimoog, but the fact is there are a lot of great analog synths out there that you can get for under $400 used. For live use, the Alesis might be just as convincing for analog-ish basses, but its programming method (using the one master knob) is a pain in the ***. So you're paying more money for an instrument that emulates the sounds of cheaper, classic instruments, and is harder to program. If you don't use its sequencing capabilities, it's a waste. I never use mine.

My Juno-106 makes great basses, and is easy as pie to program. A lot of people prefer the Juno-60, which is more reliable. The 106 has a common problem with its voice chips, and they sometimes need to be replaced.

The Juno-60 should be about $300 on eBay, and it's a very reliable 80s manufactured synth that'll give you great basses, strings, and pads.

depends a lot on what kind of sounds you're looking for

to my ears, the Kurzweil's and Yamaha's have the best piano programs, but Korg has the best just about everything else in electronica

The Roland Juno-D seems like a decent new synth, though I haven't tried one.

The Minimoog is to the synth world is what a Skyline GTR is to the automotive world. Simply the best. Here is a video of mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpFePIGOhG0
