Well, I just got a new 5-string cort bass, I've been playing bass for about 2 years and love jazz- latin<3love. But the reason I got 5 stringerrr was becuase i also love metal- (a jump from jazz i know) and bought a distortion pedal to even give the low b an extra edge towards the best metal sound i can get. -
Is there any products for bass (high watt amps, strings ex.) to make my bass sound more metal-ly?

hmmm well you can experiment with picking with picks and fingers- i think boosting bass and taking down the hi on amps give a metal sound- or more a smooth one

Maybe you can mess with the mids and get some more growl. I think boosting the low mids will turning down the high mids down would help get some more growl. Slightly boost the treble. Sorry if I wasn't any help.

dude what up. I have a cort 5, and love metal.
A pedal helps, but theres a style outline to play metal. heres a simple groove using only the root-
7--7-7-7--7-7-7-7-7--7--7
notice it has that break-down feel that gives it edge and energy.
it can get more complicated-heres a groove over a minor-
------------------------------------------------------
------------------------7--8-9-9-7-------------------
-------7--7-7-7--10-10------------10-----------------
------------------------------------------------------
most metal uses minor scale in Dorian or Aeolian.
i hope that helped, if you knew it sorry to attack your knowledge.
Like i said i play a Cort 5 and i just got a Boss Geb-7 equalizer.
I can miss with the settings and give myself all kinds of growls. I team up it up with a tubescreamer pedal and i have even more sick sounding options. I was going to get the overdrive next, but now that i have the equalizer i dont need it, because the equalizer can do everything the overdrive can with the right adjustments.

Musicans friend is selling it right now for 60 bucks, instead of the standard 90.Click on demo for a sound of it, but it can do a lot more then what you hear. Boss also makes a nice bass overdrive pedal and ibanez has a really nice tubescreamer for 30 bucks that can do a lot. Monster cables(although pricey) can improve your bass's punch as well.
Good luck and keep it metal.

dude your sick! I love jazz and latin ect, but I am mainly a punk and **** but anyways.
Get a really NICE distortion pedal. The extra $20 (US) will help you out big time. Don't settle for Digitech, go for EH or something. The more you can adjust, the better you'll sound.
I have recently had an intrest in the MESA BOOGIE rectify effect on thier amplifiers. They are a tad EXPENSIVE but try it.
But if your devoted, the money into that amp will send you to heaven.
Metal needs crunch. You could use a pick, that'll help big time. Make sure to strum hard and uneven, unless its progressive your looking for, the more raw you can get the better.
I have that eq pedal mentioned above. Take out the mids, and put the bass alittle higher than the treble. Also try turning you bass volume all the way up and your amp at nominal settings and vise versa. You want to get alot of gain. Gain = Friend in metal.
Pentatonic minor is a GREAT scale to use in metal, try it out. Metal likes lots of thirds.
I know this will lower the life of your strings, but make it a habit of playing more towards the bridge. You will notice the difference just try it out.
PS I have jammed in a metal band before, I know the whole story, and good luck.
