I was wondering that too. It certainly looks like the Custom Shop Relic, as from what I could see, it has dings in the finish.

damn, i love that song. prolly my favorite song on Stadium Arcadium.
it might be a Jaco relic, but i think it has frets (its hard to tell from the vid though). dang.... i wish i was flea, he got a free pre-cbs fender jazz in a rare color (probably worth $35,000 at least) just for asking his fans, "where can I buy a pre-CBS fender so i can be as cool as John Paul Jones?" (almost exact wording). i really envy people that get stuff for free, just 'cause their famous. If they buy it though, i really don't care :(

Im pretty certain it isnt. The fretboard should be an orangy colour for the Pau Ferro (sp?) fretboard.
Also, yeah, his salmon pink Jazz could apparantly be the only one of that type made in that year, and thusly is worth ALLOT!

ok it was a gift from Zach Stevens (former AOL big kahuna) in 2000. it's a '61 Fender Jazz Bass in Shell pink with tort. pickguard.

I think it isn't the "Jaco" model. I think its the same type of bass just battered from being actually played for long time.

it wouldn't be a pau ferro fretboard, would it? didn't all early fenders have either a brazilian rosewood fretboard or a maple fretboard? and in relic instruments, they try to use all the same materials as the old ones (as close as they can, anyway).

The jaco relic has a pau ferro one (or at least the one I tried in London did, and believe me, that fretboard is ORANGE:thumb: )

really? weird. maybe fender has changed the specs? Fender.com says its rosewood coated with epoxy.
Killer Fridge

Yeah, I just checked that too. Thats kinda weird, because the fretboard on the one I played was definatly orange! But on the fender site, its rosewood.
My guess is as good as yours!

he isn't actually, I just watched the video on my 47" Widescreen TV downstairs and im almost 100% sure it's a fretless
Just to add, I must say that is one of the hardest slap bass lines Flea has ever done. Very similar to a Mark King line

I concur. If you pause the video real quick at 2:58, Flea's standing still facing the camera and you get a good look at the bass from the front. If that doesn't look fretless, I don't know what does. :p

they made a new modulus for him, not really new just new design, and he said they were nice people so he decided to use them again live.

Fender also made a Jaco relic with a rosewood fretboard and frets. That could very well be one of those.

Wow his solo was unimpressive. I like his walking style, though. The best part of that video was the fact that there was a bass clarinet solo. That was tight.

just because he is "playing" what appears to be a jaco bass in the clip doesn't mean anything seeing as how they would use the studio recording as audio. So technically he can play whatever the **** he wants in the video's and it would make no differance, so it probably is a jaco bass
lol, flea is playing in the roof
