Don't put them on or you'll have to retune the whole gig.

If you put them on, put them on tight as hell so they stretch out. You know whats going to happen if you dont

What string material (nickel, stell, titanium, adamantium, copper) gets a warm sound not too metallic? Sort of like the tone Adam Clayton has.

Nickel always makes a warm sound for me. I didn't thought that titanium or adamantium or even copper were magnetic? :amaze:
Naveed; just put them on. Play a while, tune again, grab the strings and pull them a bit up so that they stretch out a bit. Works pretty good. Play again, do it again and they're pretty much settled in.

I just put them on, tune them, and then tune each string a couple of turns higher and let them rest over night (or a couple of hours) and it works perfectly.

My Ibanez Game with some DR-Lo Riders i believe so i decided to try out the MM sigs since these sounded dope...
and i swear by prosteels... best strings ive ever played on they are a different feel on your fingers then most other strings, and they arent Silver they are more like rusty kind of color.
The Pump Midrange into you system.

Nickel is the only metal in that list used for strings, as it's the only one thats magnetic?
Edit: Ok, you meant steel? That one too :p

always gotta 1 up me...
Man... Calling these strings Fat Beams isnt bull****.. they make me sound like i know what im doing... i didnt know they made a 6string set until i saw them oh this website...
They make my chords sound crisp... im a firm believer in that strings do so much for tone... and these strings are great.. they feel great nice and tight... when i play alot of our funkier songs i do alot of faster runs and do alot of muting.. and the tension is perfect.
I use my Fender now for Slow Songs without alot of move ment... and prosteels give me a little more midrange, witout having to boost my bridge pup... because for some reason that Pup decided to die, and its alot lower then my neck, so when i turn it up... it hums... no it sounds like a crossingf guards whistle..
DR Fat Beams are now being use exclusively on my 6string
Prosteels on my Jazz
im gonna gig wtih my 5iver tonight if my abss falls outta tune 2 mchh

i wouldn't worry about the strings going out of tune. going out of tune through your entire gig is a biiig exaggeration. i always put new strings on before i play, and they only slip out of tune maybe for an hour after they're on. two if i'm putting on boiled strings. they'll just end up sounding awesome

Marcus Miller has a six string signature set?
Im going to have to check that out. I've tried Elixers, Superslinkies, and GHS so far. My custom is coming with Carvin strings so I guess I'll try those out. I need a new set of strings so Im ordering a set of Foderas.

Yeah they were like 45 bucks...
Prosteels are 24
whats i really like about these strings is the thickness... and how its like the perfect thickness from string to string... I ordered mediums cuz i thinkt thats all they make
i play light gauge prosteel 6's (i dont use the B tho)

I like bigger gauge strings beucase I can't stand the way high notes on bass sound.

Rotosounds are too rough on the fingers.
I want smooth strings with a nice fat sound.
Naveed Afzal

Because he always has new strings on his bass.
I prefer DR Lowriders, myself. I like strings that are a little rough on the fingers, helps build callouses.

^^^I agree with that a lot actually. I can't tell you the number of bassists in my home town that complain about their tone and the culprit is clearly dead strings.

"When we're on tour I change strings once every four or five days in the summer. On tour during the rest of the year, once every ten days or so. When I'm home doing studio work I change them once every four or five weeks.
I sweat very little so that contributes to the life of my strings. Just listen to your bass. When the sound starts to change, it's time to change the strings. That is unless you really like that new wiry sound like Anthony Jackson. Then you better find a way to buy strings wholesale!! I like the sound of strings after they've been on for a couple of days.
When I was doing a lot of sessions in NY, I heard that Anthony Jackson discarded his strings after every session, sometimes after every song. I started showing behind him to collect the "old" strings. Yo, as far as I was concerned, those were perfectly good strings!! And strings were expensive!! Then I find out that he doesn't just discard the day-old strings, he clips them first with a cutter, then throws them out. I was pissed!!

I gotta try some prosteels man
blizzard

I have two sets of prosteels waiting to go one to my bass.
As for changing strings I read an interview with Flea's tech and he has new strings everytime he gigs. Also he nearly always exclusively uses one bass for loke 80% of the show only changing when hes has different tunings.
I've got lo riders on my SR5 at the moment. Didn't really like them to start with, but the more I played them the less stiff they became. Fantastic string, will last many months.
Now I've gotta put on those Nickel Lo riders and Sadowsky stainless steels...

I'm an Elixer fan, through and through. They have more tension than other strings of the same gauge, for some reason, and I love their sound.
Nice buy though.

Strings of the same gauge on the same bass tuned to the same pitch will have the same tension. You might be noting the rigidity of the strings. For instance, a hex core string will be more rigid than a round core string.

IMO new strings are new until they don't sound new anymore. My guess is that since Marcus Miller gets free sets of strings, and has a bass tech, he probably has "new" strings on all the time, at least when you are going to hear his playing.

You probably wouldn't like my bass. It has a guitar string on it.

i've yet to try heavy gauge strings, but let me tell you, i fell in love with light gauge strings for tapping tone...i have a sample of them in my soundclick page, altough that sound was wayy to bright, those need a couple days to break in...
http://www.soundclick.com/painkiller8191
actually, listening to it now, it's WAY too thin and bright, i need to rerecord that with some more low end

really? i don't find them harsh at all. just.... sorta "dry feeling". their roughness is about the same as the Ernie Balls and Fenders that i usually use.
