Depends. A good shop won't charge you much for it. Tell them do a full setup, they will lower the action for you and intonate the bass and all that good stuff.
Learn to do it yourself, it's easier, you can do it any time, and it's free for life.

Yeah, I'd say just grab an Allen Key and do it yourself, it isn't that complicated. Your bass should have come with one, but if it didn't, any Ikea furniture you might own usually comes with them too. Mightn't be the right size though.
You can get a hex key set, mine is a portable wrench, with about 8 sizes. It cost me about $10 canadian, I think. It also fits easily into my case, whenever I need it.

well sometimes it's not as easy as a hex key and you might have to do the truss rod/intonation yourself once you fiddle around the the action especially it is a fretless.

Hey psbass, I live in CT too, haha.
About the question, if you don't feel comfortable adjusting the action yourself then definitely don't do it. It's harder to get your action perfect than it seems. When you take it to the shop just watch how the luthier or whoever does it and then maybe next time you'll have a good idea of what to do. It won't cost much to have someone adjust your action either, I would say no more than 15USD.
