Okay, so I read somehwere on these forums that to "convert" say, a guitar distortion for use with bass (just an example, k?) all you pretty much have to do is swap out a few components for some with different values. What components are we talking about here? Resistors, capacitors, what? How difficult/worthwhile is it to actually do?

sometimes you don't need to. Some pedals work well with other instruments then they are supposed to, it's all about testing.

The behringer FAB metal pedal gives a perfect anesthisia tone for bass.

I know, I've got several guitar fx for my bass, and all give me what I want, what I was wondering, is what do you need/can change to make it more "for bass". Like, if all pedals worked for all instruments, why have a Guitar overdrive, and a bass one? What I'm asking, is whats the difference between the two?

You can, you don't need to. The reason they put bass on there is to raise the price. lol. You can though, it just takes some knowledge I don't have as of now. And it really depends on the pedal and what you want.

 tell me about it. I was thinking about maybe modding my ProCo RAT for bass, just to giveit a little bit more cutting through-ness. Anybody got any ideas?

I think you have to change the capacitor.

I'm not exactly sure on what you need to change it too, though. Sorry.

wow It's been a long time since i did electronics!
Uh I THINK that I changed capacitators on mine, resistors I left the same.
I think you need to make them smaller ie from 0.1 to 0.01 though I'm not sure it might be the other way round.

^^^^exactly.
just change the capacitors (ALL of them) to a value better suited for lower frequencies. problem is i don't know what value would be the best for anything. i should probably look this up....

Could you, please? It sounds about right, but as my electronics knowldege isn't really, well...... exisent, I'd prefer a better answer.

oh, and dude, your avatar is scaring me......

i think its the target frequencies

"Increasing bass response in and out of distortion box:

If the box has a small value input or output capacitor like .01uF, you can change the capacitor to a larger value such as .1uF and this will feed the unit more bass. If you change the input capacitor to a larger value, you will put more bass into the distortion circuit. If you change the output capacitor to a larger value, you will output more bass after the distortion."

^Good job, holmes.

Now, should you change the input, output, or both?

Experiment, see what sounds good... I'd prefer to put more bass into the circuit.

Sweet guys. So to convert my RAT for bass, alls I have to do is change the first capacitor in the circuit to a value 10x larger yeah?

Just experiment with it, if its a .01uF try a .1uF or a .22uF. Also try changing both the input and output capacitors...
