Before I begin, I know what some of you are thinking, "How can he afford all these basses and guitars?". This one didn't cost me anything. Well, hardly anything. I picked this bass up with an older Peavey TNT amp off a friend that I work with, all for $250.00. I'll be getting the amp on Friday, as I didn't have enough room to put it in my car. He also gave me a Comptortion pedal.
Before I say what it is, I'll describe what I had to do with it. First off, when I got it the action was super high, so I tried to adjust the truss rod. Well, the nut was pretty much frozen to the rod. I first tried liquid wrench, that didn't work, so I got out my 100 watt soldering iron and heated up the nut. It worked like a charm. I got the nut off, cleaned out the threads, and put some white lithium grease on it and it works great now. Second, the bass was filthy. The fretboard had gunk on it, so I took the Dunlop fretboard cleaner and sprayed that on the ebony fretboard. It required more than that. I got some Never-dull out and cleaned the whole fretboard with that. It worked great and also polished the frets, 2 things in one shot. Next was to clean the body. This was pretty easy. Just some good Gibson polish and elbow grease.
After all that was done, I restrung it with Ernie Ball Slinky 45-100 strings, did some final adjustments to the truss rod, adjusted the bridge and tried her out.
This bass has some nice punch to it. It's very comfortable to play and has some very nice tones.
BTW, it was made in 1985. It's in pretty good condition.
Here are some pics. Sorry they're not natural light, but the natural light around here is currently covered by clouds.

I think if you repainted the body, it's sex appeal would go up quite a bit more.
How does it sound?

Don't really need a glam rock band for that.
Entwistle used these, and I'd never call The Who glam rock.

I am guessing he either wanted to keep us in suspense, or knew if he put the pics first no one would read the words.

Intersting bass, not my sort of thing but hey, if you like it then that's all that matters.
By the way, what's the Comptortion pedal do?

The red is a pretty rare color. I think I'll just leave it as is. Besides, if I was to paint it white, I'd want to change the hardware to black. Although, I may change the hardware to black anyway.

Navy, I haven't spoken to my bosses yet, but I think they might be interested in a proposition I have for you. I work at an acclaimed photography studio, and in exchange for one of your instruments, how would you like to have your customs professionally photographed? They're big fans of the barter system, and they are also musicisans/wood connoisseur's so they would be able to ship you high quality wood at a discount and do your photography. We've done guitar work before, and if I can find the pic I'll post it for you, but I would just like to know if you're interested.

JP been meaning to ask you, do you have that pickup lesson done yet? Also I doubt that you will remember but do you know what kind of strings you put on the six string before you sold it to me?

It's very 80's...but still not for me...
Now, if it looked like Randy Coven's Signature Fodera, then, I'd love it. I realise this is somewhat abstract and all...

The strings were either Ernie Balls or D'Addario's. If the ball ends are different colors, they were D'Addario, if they're all the same color, they were Ernie Balls.

How do those two basses have a connection strong enough to warrant bringing it up?
