the most even way i've seen is using 4 fingers to play the arpeggios

i can sweep some what and it sounds sorta cool if you mess with it, this is the way i go about it so mught seema bit strange but i works for me
since a guitar sweeps on average about 6 notes lets start with that
lets say i start the sweep on 12 fret on e this is how i do it (major sweep)
G------------------13---16----13
D--------------14------------------14
A----------14--------------------------14
E--12--16---------------------------------16---12
when im going up i use my thumb and on the way back down( after 16 on g) i use my pointer finger(index isn't it?)
these are the fingers i use for each note when i ffret them
pointer, pinky, both 14s are my middle, pointer, pinky then the same coming back down
the only trouble i've encountered is that the e string will tend to ring but with practice it should be elimated
then once you get that down you can add taps and such
i hope i helped:chug: :smash:

For normal sweeps, I'd say use your right thumb, and work up your left hand speed before you even begin to try.
For taps, just practice the normal major or minor chord shape using 2 fingers from each hand.

cool sweep tap I just figured out...
------------12h13h16p12h13p12----------------17----------------------------
--------14-----------------------14--------14-----------------
----14-------------------------------14s15--------17s15-------------
12--------------------------------------------------------13---
Note: That's not the timing, so if you think of figuring that out, be creative....or I could post a sound clip if I get unlazy.
