well the important thing to remeber is that it is a rockbass not a warwick. it doesnt have the same quality as a warick full on.

I myself have a rockbass streamer standard 5 and i quite like it for its lower end (i.e. the metal aspect) but i can say i'm an expert at this as its only the second bass i've ever had. (the first being an encore pk40 which shall never be mentioned again :P)

Rockbasses are solid, but alot of people say theyre crap, because theyre not real warwicks.

You could probably find a used Warwick Corvette for the amount of money you'd spend on a new Rockbass, or just a little more. IMO, a real warwick would be a better investment than a rockbass, if you could do it.

Yer, i'd definetly go second hand and get a "real" warwick. More for your money.

Go second hand to get a real warwick or look into Ibanez basses. The SR505 is right up your ally and price range.

rockbass vette is solid for metal, i have the classic, and i'm not sure how the basic differs from it

i, too have the classic. theyre good basses for the money although people like to bash them alot, and say that they are everything about warwick that sucks. i think theyre good basses, but you cant compare them to a warwick because theyre not up to warwick par.

that being said, i would really only buy one as a first or second bass. i would really try to go and find yourself a nice second hand corvette 5. they dont go for too much used and theyre good basses, and try and get one 98 or earlier.

Second hand vette5's are perfect for metal. Nevermind Rockbass. Seriously though. Cuz one of the reasons why people buy warwicks is because of the name, myself included. You wouldn't want an imitation of the real thing.

i think they changed neck dimensions and woods. and i think they might have switched to using mec pickups, but i'm not sure about that part.

Right. Pre '98 models had necks that were entirely wenge. Now the necks are made of ovangkol and a wenge fretboard.

and changed the profile to a fatter one, and added the volute at the end of the neck.

basically what happened, is the neck woods changed, and the neck profile changed from a C shape, to a D shape, i have a 92 warwick thumb NT, at any rate the pickups are MEC they were changed within the first few years of production, finding a warwick with "the sound of wood" pickups would be an amazing find

as a few of you may recall.. i picked up a pre 98 used warwick not to long ago and as niiice as it sounded, as thin as the neck was the pure wenge neck was a little to soft of a neck for me so I had to take it back. mind you im a rather large guy with beastly hands and such. it was a sweeeeeet wick but the wood was to soft and it nicked easy. yeah i dunno what the point of telling this was...

That's a rock bass, not a warwick.

i.e. it's complete ****.

they had more handmade components pre 98, and the neck was made entirely of wendge. The neck was also slimmer and that makes the pre 98 warwicks more prized than the newer ones. I however prefer a thick precision bass type of neck(which is what i compare the later warwicks necks to) compared to the neck of an ibanez SR (renound for thin necks, comparable to the necks on a pre 98 warwick). It's all preference, i own a 2003 warwick and i love the neck on it, it's beastly.

Quality will be about the same, but I have never played a SRX series bass so I can not vouch for anything other than the quality. Ibanez is renound for the quality control that they have.

No, my main bass is my six string washburn. My ibanez is a SR305DX.
