what does the music industry have against mxtabs? it grossed a lot of money for them, and they have no appreciation for it. do they not understand that the tabs are by ear translations, and not the real thing. why arn't they picking on other tab sites? thats all i have. give me your opinions

Because. That's why. Surely we've had a thread about this before.

probably because of their contracts with tablature book companies.

no picking on took place; jeremy simply chose to close the site. Isn't it back up anyway? I don't know, I don't use it.

It's down again.

I wouldn't mind all this if they would just put out decent tab books. Do you know how hard it is to find a Neil Young or Bob Marley solo in a book?

It's my understanding that Jeremy closed the site to avoid any possible trouble. The music industry is not just persecuting mxtabs, they are going after all that they know of. UG is out of reach because of it's being located in Germany or some such I think. Apparently the internet tablature thing is taking business away from sheet music publishers. Personally, I think sheet music publishers are losing business because their stuff is so damn expensive.

Dude, you actually think that anyone can figure out how to play a Neil Young solo? Neil Young doesn't play the same solo twice and it sounds like he just improvises on the album (without doing multiple takes). However, I do have a very accurate Neil Young acoustic tab book.

Just wait for the future when all the guitarists will have better ears.

I can't believe they illegalized tabs before they illegalized lyric sites. I guess i've got no rationale for this, it just seems fishy.

Can't wait for the day when I get arrested for singing on my way into work. haha.

Yes, I have a feeling the fish are behind this.

The music industry holds the copyright to the sheet music, and they see mxtabs as hosting files which infringe that copyright - as tabs are posting a free alternative to something a musician would otherwise have to pay for.

As much as I hate the mainstream music industry, I can understand their motivation, no matter how stupid and illogical it is.
