View Full Version : amp overkill?

well, i've recently been offered a really nice 4x10 cab (Hartke 4.5XL if anyone cares) in a trade deal for one of my synths. Since i don't use it much, this seems like a really good trade. However, would it be worth it to me? currently, i'm running a Hartke HA5500 head into an 8 ohm Hartke 410XL. if i add the 4.5XL i would be able to get the full 500 watts from the head and have a full stack (aka an 8x10). will this be definate overkill? i know running 2 4x10s is more than I need now, but will it be useful to have down the road? I'd been thinking about maybe adding a 1x15 cab to my rig (especially if my next bass is a 5 string) but I'd prolly get enough lows from this without the 1x15. don't adding 4x10s just add volume, rather than additional frequency handling?

well considering they're basically the same cab, i don't think you'll get much for extra freq. ranges. why don't you get it, sell it, and get a 1x15?

what kind of synths are we talking about?

yeah, i know that it wont get any different freq. range. i meant if i were to get a 1x15 i'd get a different freq range. i guess i could sell it, but this guy has been trying to sell it for a few months, and actually, it's probably a better cab than mine, since it doesn't have the extra 5" speaker that this one does. I dunno if i could sell it.... OMG! brainspark!

i could do the trade, then trade it (or my current cab, depending on which one i like better) in at a store with my t-bird to help finance my Stingray!

hmm... i'll have to think this over....

oh, and this guy's interested in either my Realistic (moog) or my Yamaha DX-21.

If you want to get rid of your moog.. I bet we can sort something out. As for the amps: I wouldn't want to saddle myself up with another cabinet in my house when I don't use it. I mean: what's the point in that?

I'd advise against a Hartke 1x15" :thumb: Played thru one and it sounded horrible

what sort of a deal? :naughty: as for the cab though.... so you think if i really might need something more later on, I should wait until that time comes?

also, to rh15951, which 1x15 did you try? i know the paper ones don't sound to hot (hartke tweeters suck) but i played an aluminum one that sounded nice.

You can always turn it down, as Edge would say. Personally if you think it will give you the tone you want, and you have no need for the synth, I don't see why not.

if i recall correctly, the synth isn't really a moog.

true. its a Realistic Concertmate MG-1. but basically it's a Moog Rouge.

it even says "made by Moog music" on the back..... i call it my moog.

oh, i missed the "made by moog music" part one day i'll have enough extra cash to get a minimoog.

I was thinking about cash or twenty camels.

I think you should wait 'till the time comes. The Moog is also more 'rare' then the Hartke cabinet. You can buy a Hartke every day and you can't do that with this moog I thought.
