This is about my job and it's rather negative. But it does reflect my feelings re: how healthcare has changed. I try to sing a little like Gordon Lightfoot, If any one remembers him.

A Doctor's Lament

The Paitients used to be the primal reason
Of every sound medical decision.
It's not that way any longer.
Our power has been truly split asunder

bridge

Once I was a trained proffessional.
What I thought mattered a lot
Now I'm a cog in a big wheel
Stuck on an old farm lot
Yeah stuck on an old farm lot

Coulple chords between verses

Team meeting used to be a training ground
for nurses socialworkers and for me.
Now it's meant for utilization
A review of reinbursment concerns.
Yeah a review of reimbursment concerns.

coulple chords again

Oh my God, what have we come too?
I'm so upset, but I'm not suppossed to be.
Some days I find it hard to focus,
Some days just weren't meant to be.
Yeah some days just weren't meant to be.

couple chords again

Greed leads to wanting more efficiency
Hardly a patient concern
But the God of the almighty dollar
Decides what's best for everyone.
Yeah it decides what's best for everyone.

It decides whether you are treated here
Or whether your sent accross the street.
Maybe it should find you a place to live,
Or perhaps just a little bite to eat.
Yeah perhaps just a little bite to eat

Once here and deemed appropriate for treatment
How much is not equvalent to need.
Insurance factors are the Holy Grail
When you run out you hit the dusty trail
It may seem kinda callous and hardcore,
But isn't that what public funds are for?
Yeah isn't that what public funds are for?

couple chords

No honor, no compassiopn and no decency.
Those are hardly efficiency concerns.
Take them out of the healthcare equation
Something's lost I'm sorry no returns!
Yeah something's lost I'm sorry no returns!
