A game I've been working on for a few months now just recently got announced and has had a little bit of press. Thought I'd share it with you.

As the title says, it's called Cipher Complex. I guess it's going to be for 360 and PS3 (I orignally just thought PS3, but an article says otherwise). I can't really say too much about what it's about or anything since that hasn't been released yet. Everything I can say is in the IGN article. Anyways...

(sorry for the bad scan)

And the preview article:

Like I said, not much has been released, but you can see some cool paintings one of our artists made, and see a little of the plot.

Feel free to speculate or whatever.

What exactly do you do in the whole magical process of making games?

I'm an animator. So I just make stuff move.

Wow, is helping make video games a fun job?

It's ok. It's pretty fun most of the time, but it has it's moments like any other job where you want to tear your hair out.

Im sorry about kinda setting this topic on a seperate course, but, did you go to college? and if so what kind of degree did you get?

I'm majoring in Computer Information Systems at my college currently.:thumb:

Yup, I went to college. I have a BA in Media Arts and Animation. I'm not totally sure what kind of a degree a programmer or anything should have. I've heard programming for games is pretty different the other programming.

So anyone have any opinions on the actual game? I only do animation, I had no hand in the story or idea or anything, so you won't be hurting my feelings if they're negative. I'm just curious as to what people think based on the info released and about the genre in general.

It looks pretty cool.

It didn't reveal much besides what they hope to accomplish. Plus, it looks like a typical spy shooter that's been coming out in recent years, but that doesn't mean people won't have fun playing it. I usually play PC games, but often times, a selling point to gamers is when a new game is built on a previous game's graphic engine or uses a blueprint from elsewhere that has appealed to us before.

Good luck with it.

We're using our own proprietary engine. It's a pretty good one from what I've seen. We have alot of cool technology for it right now, that I doubt I can really reveal. I'm sure I'm allowed to say our ocean and rain looks very cool.

So what do you think of the genre? Obviously it's been a genre with a surplus of games. What type of game play innovations do you think would draw you to an unestablished title?

I really don't know, I'm not much for shooters. The last one I bought (actually got for Christmas) was Doom III, which was mainly for the graphics (and I love water effects in games like Elderscrolls today). But you guys seem to be on the right track as far as intelligent AI and environments go; graphics and physics are about standards now. I'm just not much of a consumer - period - so I'm really not good in this situation.

Maybe if Zakath comes in here, he can give you some opinions of an FPS player. Or try the CS thread and see what they're talking about.

Hmm, so I guess a smidge more about the plot has been released:

"In Cipher Complex, a recon satellite is mysteriously blasted from orbit, and when diplomatic requests for information are stonewalled, the US government is forced to call in its last resort – Operative John Cipher. Charged with uncovering the truth by any means necessary, Cipher is going behind enemy lines to extract information the hard way."

I heard the animations in that game suck... :p

Looks cool, can't say much besides that from the lack-of-knowledge.

The picture at IGN reminds me ALOT of splinter cell. Looks pretty cool regardless.
