Well Ive got a Yamaha "YD Series" drumset. It was the first set I bought for myself about 3 years ago. Im going finally add some new things and replace the things that are not doing so well. Basically I need a new high hat, and a crash cymbal. Any suggestions on what to get? Also if there is anything else I should get feel free to suggest whatever. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well thats the problem, Im not really able to test out cymbals and stuff because there is no music store in my area, except one place that sells just plain crap, so Im probably going to have to order off the internet.

I got a YD too man, yeah they sound terrible with those stock heads and cymbals, but i really souped mine up and it sounds incredible considering its a beginner set. But anyway give specs on your cymbals and heads

Everything is as it came, ive made no additions. Ive got a 20" Yamaha ride, and thats my only cymbal. My heads are the Yamaha U2 BA heads.

Holy Lord man, you gotta get rid of them heads, get heads for top and bottom your kit will sound 100% better. and as far as cymbals are you lookin to get high end type stuff? what type of music do you play?

Well for what time of music, I really dont want to limit myslef to any particular type. I want versatility with my equipment. And the heads are not too big of a deal for me right now since I have silence pads on them anyways (noise is not appreciated in my house). BUt I will be upgrading them soon, so I would also like to know what kind of heads are good. Thanks guys

Versatile? Can't go wrong with Zildjian A.
20" A Medium Ride
16" A Thin Crash
14" A New Beats
18" A Medium Crash

It's about the most straightforward, versitile basic setup imaginable - and nice stuff, too. Really nice stuff. I recomend you go here: http://zildjian.com/en-US/products/default.ad2?catalogID=1011&typeID=7 and look around. Everything in the A line will be pretty versatile, but by looking through the options you'll be able to pick out what you think you'd prefer.

Good luck with this, though I do suggest you do everything you can to try things out first. You may want to save up a bunch of money (enough to buy ride, hats, and two crashes) and then make a bit of a trip to a store that will have a decent selection. That way you can make one good trip out of it. Maybe a day trip to a larger city or something for cymbals.

Im going to try my best to make a trip to the nearest music store that has some good equipment. Im going to test out the Zildjian A series. Im going to try it out and most likely going to get the 14" high hat and 18"crash.

So about how much should all of this cost me? Im going to try to replace all my cymbals and get new stands for them all, and its coming out to around $1,000. That sound about right?

drummerdave

that seems a little pricey to me, all my cymbals together=800$
A cutsom 13" hi hats
A custom 16" crash, 18 "crash
A custom 20" medium ride
A custom 8" splash
FX 16" oriental china trash (bought used)
for just a ride and hi hat plus stands for both im guessing around 800$, maybe less

ok, get a nice solid pair of hi-hats, open your horizons look into other companies as well other than zildjian. Get a good ride, and then get a crash
thats all you need for now, and i would try to say away from those packs unles you get a bargain because you havem ore selection when you choose the ones you like. A lot of places you can get deals if you get somethingl ike hihats crash and a ride together anyways.

I can vouche for those hi-hats and the ride being great cymbals. I don't think I've ever heard the crash, and I haven't ever used that hardware, but I've heard that the Pacific 700 series of hardware is pretty heavy duty.

I have a Sonor 400 series hi-hat stand that is amazing! I just bought a Tama Iron Cobra lever glide hi-hat stand not too long ago, and honestly, it wasn't much of an upgrade. It's a great stand. Look into it.

Hold on guys, dont recomend him A Customs when he asks for versatility - they are less versatile than the As. That's what the whole "Custom" thing is about.

Now, I recomend that this guy, and anyone else, go out and try everything they can, As, A Customs and anything else available, but when he asks for versatility let's not mislead anyone and recomend A Custom over regular As.

^^ yes master.

I wouldnt get a Pulse stand, that is a cheap brand overall, you want something thats cheap but still will get the job done. This PDP i think woudl be pretty good, and if thats expensive you could get away with a lower one.

Hey guys, I went over to the music store where I take my lessons and I asked my instructor if he knew where I could find some quality cymbals....turns out they got a huge shipment of drumming equipment a few days ago, they just havent been able to put them on the shelves. So he took me back and let my try out all the stuff I wanted and it was great. I found the line of Zlidjian A's and they really sounded nice. So I think im going to get:

14" Zlidjian A Series New Beats HH
18" Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash
PD DW HH920 Double-Leg Hi-Hat Stand
PDrums DW P/D 700 Boom Cymbal Stand

I will probably have the money by next thursday, so Im going to try to get the stuff now. And I really need it now, as my HH stand wont even open/close now....

Edit: I am also going to try to post pics if someone can tell me how please

Well I got royally screwed....I went to the music shop, and was about to get a Zildjian A Medium Crash for $180, plus the stand for 40$, and New Beats HIgh hat for about 200 or so...couldnt remember how much exactly. And of course the main thing i needed...the HH stand. Well turns out I cant get any of it...because of my mom. She didnt want me to spend the $500 or so for all this "crap", because its as much as my whole kit cost when she bought it for me...but this time I had my OWN money which I earned from my summer job. So basically I cant buy what I want with my own money, because my mom doesnt think that my hobby is worth it:angry:

Well my birthday is in 4 months or so (turning 16), so I will just drive over there myself and buy the stuff, and hide it from her:thumb:

My parents do the same thing. I just hide it from them, then when they find out they can't do anything about it.

I'll give you a small list of stupid, ignorant things my parents have said:

"You paid $500 for that hunk of metal?" *referring to my pedal*
"Music isn't a worthwhile career to get into"
"Why don't you sell you're drumset and get a guitar?"
"Do you think you could stop drumming until we get a soundproof room up?" *said more than 6 months ago, the room isnt even started yet*

Hey Leprechauns, if you wan't cheap but high quality cymbals, order in some Meinl Gen-X cymabals.

They're made for drum and bass, but you can unscrew the top cymbal on top of them, and they sound more normal like, They got for like 200 a pack for hats, crash, and a ride ( The Johnny Rabb ones do ). You can read up more about them, just a thought.
