Me and the guitarist from my band are trying to record our songs.
I've got an 8-track with 2 mic inputs and (lordy it sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about haha) dual inputs where we can record 2 things at once. I've got a pretty nice condenser mic and a regular vocal mic.

What do you suggest is the best way to record the drums? We've tried hanging the condenser overhead, and that works fairly well. I think we're going to try doing the condenser above and using the vocal mic from below to pick up the bass drum and toms a little better.

Any advice at all would be immensely helpful!

Put the vocal mic in front of the bass and put the overhead above the drums, ideally above the snare about a foot or so above the highest cymbal.

That's how I've always done it, but I'm no expert. You definitely want the overhead centered over the snare though.

Thanks man! I'll give that a shot tomorrow when we record.
